Unholy - Jeongin X Reader

The Recording Studio (#1)

I stride around the recording booth, warming up my vocals. "Okay..." Changbin starts, clearing his throat while Bangchan sits next to him and the two hyungs begin. "We'll start with S-Class and move on to TOPLINE if we have time to..." I groan inwardly, feeling that we'll be in here for a while since Changbin absolutely loves to give me a lecture on my vocals. But, it's not like I'm complaining.

"Okay... So your first part in the song is your duo vocals with Seungmin and I in the prechorus, the closing chorus with Hyunjin, Felix and Lee Know, and then your most important bit, the bridge with I.N," Chan starts, and then Changbin continues, "you'll start with the prechorus since it's the bit I think you'll catch onto really quickly, then the chorus, and we'll call I.N in here to do the bridge with you since you two are the main vocals of that part." Changbin signals for me to start, as I clear my throat and finish off the Pre-Chorus in one go.

"Swerving, I'm speeding on Serpent Road
Luxurious, like I'm an S-Class,
Best of the best on first class"

"..You did better than I expected, not gonna lie!" Chan exclaims, almost shook, then asking me to start with 'Feeling extra'.

Chan starts recording, so I begin :

'Feelin' extra, everyday,
빛깔 뻔쩍 빛깔 뻔쩍,
빛깔 뻔쩍해 class는 특 -'

I had just begun to get into the feel of the beat when Bang Chan raises a hand to stop me. "Uh, so one thing, with the 'everyday!' put a little bit more feel into it, like with 'day' almost pop it, kind of like how you roll your r's but just pop it a little, so just try the 'everyday' line again."

I breathe in, and repeat,

'Feelin' extra, everyday'

Changbin looks at me and nods in approval, signalling to move on to the final two lines of the chorus. "Oh yes, with the 'star' bit at the end, drag it out so it makes it easier to edit later, like instead of 빛이 번져 더욱 빛나는 *star*, drag it out a little bit, so like 'starrr' if you get what I'm saying?"

I nod, my breath hitching, then starting :

'빛깔 뻔쩍 빛깔 뻔쩍
빛이 번져 더욱 빛나는 star.."

I add in a little breath at the end for a little extra effect and Bang-Chan begins to applaud quietly while Changbin yells, "YA?! JEONGIN-AH IT'S TIME TO RECORD!" A muffled reply from Jeongin, something like "Why? I don't wanna do it by myself-" Jeongin storms in, as his eyes dart from me to Chan, then replies, " 'Kay fine I'll do it,"

Chan cracks a laugh, looking me up and down while I pretend to be engrossed in my nails. "So.. what bit are we doing?" Jeongin asks while stretching over my shoulder to look at the lyric sheet. My eyes widen slightly and I reply, "Uh, we're doing the bridge now, so you better hope today's a good day for vocals.."

"Don't you underestimate these vocals! I'm one of the main vocalists for a reason!" Jeongin retorts, half joking, patting me on the shoulder. I roll my eyes, then Chan asks for Jeongin to start with the first line, then me going in with the second and third.

Jeongin steps to my side, wrapping an arm slyly around my waist, as Chan raises his eyebrows at me, almost teasing me. I roll my eyes back at him, then Jeongin starts to sing beside me :

'I feel like the brightеst star'

As he takes another small breath, I take my cue to cut in

'빛이 쏟아지는 밤
하늘을 바라보면'

"Y/N.. your vocals are really strong but it's your breath that slows you down a little bit. So with the 'myeon' bit closer to the end you're losing your breath so it comes across a little choppy, so we'll have I.N cover that line for you instead, but you'll do the rest of the bridge with him anyways, so no hard feelings!" Chan starts, an almost concerned look on his face. "Hey, how bout you try it without I.N's arm around you, it seems like he's making you a little nervous," Bang Chan finishes, earning a light blush from me and a hearty punch on the shoulder from Changbin hyung.

I.N steps back in surrender, but takes his arm away from me as we repeat the lines we had just done :

'빛이 쏟아지는 밤
하늘을 바라보면'

Changbin applauds, then asks us to continue with the bridge. "Okay, for this last line, you have to add some pauses here and there, because of the choreo in the actual dance where I.N does that weird arm thing, but you've heard Lee Know's guide, so just start so we can be done with S-Class already, it's such a pain to manage recording.."

I clear my throat, but Jeongin pats the lower part of my back, almost congratulating me. "Don't worry, almost done!" He teases, pushing my shoulder with the other hand. Chan signals to start singing, so we finish off,

"내 모습 수놓아져 있어, yeah, yeah"

Changbin listens to all of the recordings, then tells us to move on to TOPLINE tomorrow since he can't be half-arsed to deal with us for another day. Jeongin silently punches the air in joy, but as I prepare to leave, Jeongin grabs my arm and asks, "Hey, do you.. uh, like, wanna go grab a coffee later?" His eyes search mine, for any sign of hesitation, and I roll my eyes jokingly, "Yeah, sure, we can go now if you'd like?"

Jeongin breathes a sigh of relief, and says, "Yeah, sure, that'd be nice.." He stares into my eyes for a moment, drifting over my jaw to my neckline to my collarbone, then his eyes flick up to my face, his face tinted a light shade of pink. "I knew you were into me, but not this much!" he laughs, punching me on the shoulder as I flick his forehead, linking his arm with mine as we walk out, sharing stupid jokes as Chan calls my name. "Hey! Y/N! Could I have a second?"

Jeongin looks to me, confused, then nods, "Go ahead, I'll wait."
I rush back in after taking off my headphones, and then Chan asks, "Hey, are you and I.N like.. a thing now?" I blush heavily, running a hand through my hair as I stammer, "Uh- n-no, why?"
"You sure?" he asks, and he continues, "You guys seemed pretty touchy today and I saw the way he looked at you just then.. do you.. like him?"

I bite my lower lip, hesitating. "I- I think so.." Chan smiles at me, almost happy. "Anyways, I'm pretty sure he does too, because I.N's not a touchy person like that, kind of like a Seungmin dupe!" I giggle slightly, and Changbin says, "Anyways, you guys enjoy your date... and fill me in if anything happens.. you know what I mean," He finishes after I raised an eyebrow at him. I rush back out of the studio and link my arm in Jeongin's, as he asks, "What did Chan-hyung want anyways?"

I laugh, slightly awkwardly, but I respond, "Nothing really, just saying I need to practice on my vocals before Jay Why Pee Oppar listens to the album if the sales skyrocket.." I feign irritation as I roll my eyes sarcastically as Jeongin laughs, letting go of my arm. "..Let's race downstairs." My eyes widen in shock as he finishes, "Hey, whoever wins pays for the coffee and an additional... 50,000 won, if I must say." I try to protest, but Jeongin makes a bolt for the stairs, running like his life depends on it, and I sprint after him in a hurry, sliding down the metal bannisters when I see Jeongin round the corner of the 4th floor, then quicken my pace until I get to street level, where I see Jeongin's face plastered with a smile worthy of a child, as I roll my eyes at him while my face tints a light pink and we walk arm in arm towards the coffee shop without a care in the world.
