Lilly hurried into class, her red and gold curls obscuring her face and her arms full of books and papers.  As she ran for her desk Ollie, one of the boys who constantly taunted her, stuck out his foot and tripped her.  Her school work went flying, and she fell with a thump on the floor.  "Pst- late again Plant?"  his friend Ian whispered, using the nickname she despised.  Several other students snickered.  She felt her face go red as she reached down to start gathering her papers.  She froze as she felt a hand on her shoulder.  Someone else coming to taunt her?  But her anger and fear turned to nervous embarrassment as Jack Mallance, the handsomest boy in school, started picking up her things.  He placed them on her desk and, without another word, sat down at his as if nothing had happened.  As she took her place, Lilly felt the glares of the entire female population on her.  Jealous of Jack's attention, no doubt.  But why had he helped her, she mused.  He could have just been being nice, but she hadn't seen him go out of his way to help someone before, in front of the whole class.  Not that she watched him or anything...

"Daniel!" At the sound of her icy voice, his head snapped up to meet her brilliant blue eyes, now burning with anger.  "How could you?  I loved you!  I poured out my heart to you and you went and dated another girl behind my back!  You two-timing jerk!"  His heart sank.  But he had to redeem himself.  He gave her the beautiful, charming, apologetic smile that always worked on girls.  "I'm so sorry, love. I will mend my ways!  I would never hurt you!  I love you!"  He looked up expectantly, hopefully.  She would melt and make up with him just like all the others.  But instead she slapped him across the face.  "I should have known you would do this!  It's all you've ever done.  You don't actually love me.  You were just using me!"   And with that, she stormed out of the apartment.  As she left, he actually felt sad.  He felt that deep down, he had known that she was different.  He was stupid to cheat on her!  He began to cry silent tears of heartbreak as the only woman he had ever truly loved walked out of his life.

He looked down at his hands nervously, and then back at his best friend.  She was smiling expectantly at him, looking beautiful in the light of the sunset.  Then again, she always looked beautiful.  It had taken him a while to realize that.  "What I mean is I, er, well.."  he trailed off, not knowing how to say it.  She reached out and squeezed his hand encouragingly, which did not help matters at all.  "Well what I mean to say is... I love you!"  He blurted, feeling the blood rush to his cheeks.  She looked confused.  "Well of course you do!  We are best friends, are we not?"  Argh!  She was not making this easy at all!  He ran his hand through his already mussed platinum blond hair in exasperation.  "I just can't stand it anymore!" he cried, and he grabbed her around the middle and pressed his lips to hers.  The next few moments were heaven and he sighed when she stepped back.  "Oh, that kind of love"  she murmured dazedly.
