Dear Diary,
I was right. I woke up in bed to quiet. Nothing was on in the house. So I got up and checked around, none of my roommates were home. So I checked outside, my car was the only one in the lot. There were no clouds in the sky. There was no wind, no sound. The neighbors across the street were gone too.
I decided I'd just try knocking on one of my neighbor's doors and when I did I saw that the door was unlocked. Their car wasn't here, and they weren't answering the door, so I just left. I checked all the neighbors doors and no one answered, but all the doors were unlocked. Finally I just said fuck it, and opened one. It was empty, it had gray walls, but nothing else. Not even hardwood or carpet, just concrete. As if they had completely stripped the place of everything, to prepare it for someone new, but never followed through. There was a layer of dust on the outside window.
I went back to my apartment to look for something to eat, I thought that even if the power was out there might still be something in the cupboard. There wasn't, it was empty. They all were. I checked the fridge, empty. I checked the bread box, empty. I looked in every nook and cranny, every appliance, the microwave , the toaster, the oven. I even checked the washer and dryer. Not even lint. I tried the tap, dry as a dessert. I tried the bathroom sink, nothing. The showerhead was missing, the plastic in the tub had been stripped.
I decided to go for a drive, went down, and hopped in my car. It was dead, it wouldn't even turn. I guess I'll just sleep in.
