After James made his way downstairs and into the kitchen, you and Sirius ended up sitting on the edge of the bed in his empty bedroom. The muffled sounds of conversation between James and his mother could be heard distantly from the room.

"Are you going to talk to me now?" Sirius asked, turning his head to look at you.

"You aren't giving me much of a choice." You scoffed, crossing your arms.

"We're going to be married in a few days, we need to communicate with each other." He justified, shrugging.

"Getting married is the issue here. I'm not ready for this. I'm not ready to uproot my life because of some stupid thing we did as teenagers."

"Y/n..."

"Don't. Don't try to make this situation seem any less terrifying, because it wont work."

"Why is it terrifying? What are you so afraid of?"

"I'm afraid of you! Of this relationship!" You exclaimed, standing up.

Hurt flashed in his eyes, and there was nothing that he could do to stop this conversation from getting more heated. "Am I so terrible to you that you think this marriage is going to be a nightmare? I have been nothing but kind to you, Y/n! You broke up with me and yet I still haven't expressed my anger towards you because I know that you hate this situation so much, but I won't hide it anymore." He stood up too, running his hands through his hair.

"How could you still be angry after all these years?" You questioned.

"How could I not be? You left me with no chance to explain myself, but if you did, you would've known that I would never cheat on you. You ripped my heart out and you still have it tight in your grasp."

You stared at him, blinking back tears. He had just openly admitted that he still loved you, and yet you couldn't bring yourself to accept that you loved him too. The way you felt for the months following your breakup was back full force, and you could feel your heart aching again.

He cleared his throat, shoving his hands into his pockets. "But you don't love me anymore. I can learn to accept that, but I still have a sliver of hope that you'll love me again someday." With that, he trudged out of the bedroom, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

The guilt was eating you up. He still loved you, and somewhere in the back of your mind you knew that your feelings for him had never truly dissipated. Despite the breakup, and the years that had gone by, the fact that he still cared for you so deeply was unwillingly bringing old feelings back to the surface.

After dinner with the Potter's, Euphemia had successfully convinced you to stay the night since it had gotten pretty late. She had made up the guest bedroom for you before heading to bed, but despite the late hour, you were wide awake. You decided to head outside into the garden for some fresh air, sitting in the very spot that you used to sit with Remus during the summer.

Sirius rounded the corner, a cigarette hanging between his lips as he flicked his lighter to light it. He stopped at the sight of you, taking a drag before lowering it in his fingers. "I didn't know you were still here."

"Euphemia talked me into staying. I didn't know you were here either."

"Seems as though we're in the same situation. I'm bunking with James tonight. What are you doing out here so late?"

"I can't sleep." You sighed, settling further into your seat.

"You were always nocturnal." He spoke, sitting in the seat next to you.

"So were you. You were basically the one that made me this way."

He tilted his head back, blowing out smoke into the air above him. "You're right about that. Our late night excursions really made a mark."

You nodded, looking up at the night sky. "The stars are so beautiful tonight."

Instead of following your gaze to the constellations above you, he gazed over at you. "They are."

You looked at him, his face dimly illuminated by the soft moonlight. The stars twinkling in his eyes reminded you of your late night conversations in the astronomy tower, and you tried to ignore the flutter in your heart at his gaze on you.

"Maybe we should talk about earlier." He suggested, breaking you out of your trance. "I'll start by apologising."

"Sirius Black is going to apologise to me? What have I done to receive such an honour?" You quipped.

He rolled his eyes, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "Shut up and accept my apology. I'm sorry for lashing out, I let my emotions get the best of me."

"I get it. I shouldn't have cut you off like that. I guess...I was just feeling insecure in our relationship."

"Why's that?" He inquired.

You were about to get married. The best option would be to clear the air about your past so that you could move forward together. You sighed, clasping your hands together in your lap. "I know that I had no reason not to trust you. I just let the rumours get to my head, I suppose. And it was hard being with you. I was constantly berated by people because apparently I wasn't worthy of dating the heartthrob of Hogwarts."

"You should've told me. That's complete bullshit."

"What could you have done? Nothing would've stopped it. It was just so much pressure, dealing with jealous peers and criticism from my family at the same time. I didn't feel good enough for anyone, so I let other people come between us, and I'm sorry for that."

"Don't apologise. I understand. I just wish things didn't happen the way they did. Maybe we would've already been married years ago if none of that came in the way."

"Maybe." You shrugged, watching him put out his cigarette on his pant leg.

"I hope that you feel less anxious about this situation now that we've had a chance to talk things out."

You nodded, standing up. "I do."

"Hey, save your 'I do's for the wedding day, yeah?" He teased.

You rolled your eyes at him, smiling. "Goodnight, Sirius."

"Goodnight, Y/n."
