Sirius Black was your highschool sweetheart. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that the two of you would have been happily married by now, if life hadn't gone the way it did. Your heart was torn right out of your chest when he was sent off to Azkaban for the murders of your good friends James and Lily. You never believed he did it, not even for a second, however your brother Remus needed convincing from you at first. He, much like everyone else, truly believed that Sirius was a traitor. You argued that you knew him better than anyone else, and that he would never commit such a heinous crime, and Remus didn't want to disagree with you because he knew how much it affected you. Eventually, he really did change his mind, agreeing with your reasoning as to why you believed Sirius was innocent.

You never fully recovered from the loss of Sirius. I mean, how could you stop grieving someone who you knew was alive and suffering? The thought of Sirius losing his mind in Azkaban tormented your mind daily, and the mourning you felt after losing James and Lily was just the cherry on top.

One particular day, years later, the wound felt as fresh as ever. Grief is unpredictable like that. One day, you'll be able to function normally, and the next, you feel like you're right back where you started. You knew that on those days, it'd be best to take some time to yourself, however, the frustration you felt from not "progressing" through your sadness had frayed your last nerve. Sick and tired of the endless cycle of depressive episodes, you decided you'd push past it and continue your day as normal.

Your day at work was torturous, and you rushed out the moment your shift ended. You breezed right through The Leaky Cauldron and back onto the streets of London, trying your best to get away from the crowds of Diagon Alley as fast as possible. You practically ran out the doors of the pub and onto the street in front of the entrance, barely able to focus on where you were going.

That's when the accident happened.

You slipped into a coma. Remus spent the first week by your bedside, refusing to leave you alone. After some convincing from the nurses, he agreed to go home for the nights and visit you during the day. He came by every afternoon to sit with you, reading his book aloud in hopes that maybe you could hear him somehow.
