“Dinner time!” Mark’s mother yelled from the kitchen then sighed. Mark and Jake entered the room, laughing and arguing. “No way man, that isn’t possible!” Mark said with a wide grin on his face as he sat down at the wooden table. “Thank mom!” He smiled at the tired woman before turning to his friend. She smiled back placed some plates in front of them before walking back to her business. “Yeah it is,” Jake raised his eyebrow and grinned back, taking some toast. “Thanks Mrs. Donovan, just what I wanted!” The woman just nodded and sighed, flashing him a smile. She was too tired to put up with their little fights or them for the matter, so she just returned to the oven. “Boys, you need to find yourselves a normal hobby.” Caitlyn said with an eye roll. Jacob scratched the back of his head and Mark laughed, punching him in the shoulder. “She meant you dude!” Jake grinned and turned to Mark. “I’m not a nut my friend, there is evidence…And thank you Mrs. Donovan for the advice, I will find your son a hobby, and….” Mark cut him short, taking his sandwich. “Yeah, the next thing you’ll tell me is that Harry Potter is real. And she meant you, right mom?” He rolled his eyes and waited for his mother to answer. Caitlyn just smiled and walked out of the room before she’d say anything stupid.
“Man, drugs aren’t good for you, give up! Vampires? Grow up.” Marcus added to his friend before taking a bite of his sandwich and turning the TV volume up so he wouldn’t have to hear his friend’s yapping about living dead. Or his mother hear them yapping about drugs. “Telling you man, I’m not crazy.” His friend said offended, snatching the sandwich back. “And we both know that I’ve been off drugs for some time.” He grinned wide and threw a crumpled napkin at Will. “Why are you acting like my mom?” Mark just smiled and sighed. Vampires? Yeah right. What’s next, the Tooth Fairy, Santa? He wasn’t going to believe any of that crap.

I sniffed the cold air of the evening and came out of my hide. I felt my neck dry and my head pulsing. That only meant one thing: I was hungry. But I couldn’t go into town to get breakfast; I had to find another way. A gust of wind brought the smell of fresh blood to my nostrils. “Perfect!” I whispered as sprinted off into the forest. Night was descending fast upon the small town, but I didn’t mind. That didn’t bother me at all when I hunted. It was only making things easier for me. Next to the lake, I noticed some men loading a large truck. “Dinner! At last.” My teeth sparkled in the faint light of the lanterns. I hid behind a tree and waited for one of the men to leave. The wait wasn’t long as one of them was stupid enough to part from the others. That was all it took.
A step and a snap and the sweet blood flooded my mouth. The headache stopped and so did the pain in my throat. I didn’t stop until I drained the man dry. I was whole again, finally. As I looked down at the body I knew I couldn’t just leave it there. The cliffs! With a sigh, I grabbed the body. “You could have lost a few pounds good sir, make things easier for a lady.” I giggled and pushed him over a cliff. “Farewell and thank you.” The animals would do the rest. I headed back home, hoping that I would find something to do back there. But stopped halfway and grinned. Why not play with the others first? That would ease my boredom.

Mark took his jacket from the peg and followed Jake outside into the light of the street lamps. It was almost midnight and everyone in the neighborhood was in bed. Well, everyone excepting for them. “So, where are you taking me?” Marcus asked curious while closing his jacket. It was pretty cold for a summer night, and that was weird. Jake grinned and winked, turning towards him. “You’ll see my friend, you’ll see.” That was everything he said before increasing his pace and turning left on a small street. Mark wasn’t a big fan of surprises, especially from his best friend as her new they were always weird. And not to mention scary as hell.
