"You're not going!" Riley yelled at me, stomping his foot into the floor and shaking in anger.
It had been 2 weeks since Riley and I made our relationship official. It was sort of perfect. He had given me his virginity before asking if I'd be his girlfriend. I believed at the time that I still loved him but now I was completely, utterly miserable. Why did I force myself into thinking that this was such a good idea?
Dylan left the following day when I told him I couldn't continue whatever we had going on. In the midst of the heated argument we were having, I could tell you this much: I knew I didn't love Riley. Letting Dylan go was a mistake that I'd probably regret forever. Now, I'd lost my chance with Dylan. Who knew where he was?
"I don't understand what the big deal is!" I shouted, whipping my hair as I trampled away from him and slipped on my shoes.
Riley and I had practically been living together for the last couple weeks. I would go home briefly, only to sneak out when everyone else had gone to sleep. Debbie, Colin's mother was able to get permanent legal custody over me but she didn't seem too concerned about where I was or what I was doing. The only thing left to dread was that I'd have to see Liam at some point for his trial.
He remained in jail, thankfully. Colin and I never spoke of the night we hooked up again. Actually, no. We never spoke of really anything. Riley wouldn't permit it. I missed him though. He asked me to come hang out with him and I agreed. In what was almost my entire life, I've never gone this long without having a conversation with the boy. I sorely missed him. That was ending today.
"You slept with him! That's a big deal to me!" He screamed back at me. One glance at the window revealed that Colin was already outside waiting for me.
"It's not to me," I said flatly, hooking my bag over my shoulder and fleeing from the house. I slammed the front door loudly and took two steps down the stairs of the front porch then leaped down the rest. I rushed into the car and sat down. I looked back to the house and saw Riley coming down the stairs after me.
"Go!" I shouted at Colin. We headed down the street in his Mom's car, moving further and further from Riley's house. I found myself repeatedly checking to make sure he wasn't following in his car.
"What happened?!" Colin asked me, shutting off the radio as we reached a stop sign.
"He forbade me from seeing you," I spat.
"Well," Colin said exaggerating the length of the word, his voice trailing off.
"What?" I asked him.
"I don't know. Never mind. He should trust you," Colin said, shrugging.
"He says he does and it's you he doesn't trust," I muttered, blowing a wisp of hair off of my face. Colin scowled, making a turn on the road that I didn't understand.
"He doesn't trust me how? He thinks I'll slip something in your drink and hope it happens again? Because that's not going to happen. It happened once and it was a mistake." He seemed to be mocking the situation.
"Honestly, I just want to forget it happened but I can't. He won't let me," I told him. I felt my forehead wrinkle in distress.
"I just wish he'd punch me in the face and get it over with," Colin said. His usual sarcastic intonation wasn't there.
"Stop it," I hissed, slapping his arm playfully.
"No really," he said, laughing a bit to himself. "The suspense is killing me. I just wanna get it over with."
"Do you really think he'll hurt you? I'd be pretty pissed."
"Oh, he'll probably wait until you've had enough of him," Colin said. His hand flew to cover his mouth. "I didn't mean to say that out loud, Val. I just think he's an asshole. Oh and by the way? If the roles were reversed, I would never make you chose."
