Scarlett hated everyone. She hated the Kingdoms. She hated the Fates. She hated Luna. But most of all, she hated herself for not being able to prevent Luna from making that stupid decision and suffering alone. It took everything inside Scarlett not to scream out in pain when she saw Luna's pale body in the woods. One look at Luna and Scarlett knew what they had done. They made the deal. Scarlett knew there was no longer hope for Luna as she laid their head on her lap, trying to lift them up a little. Luna reached out their hand to Scarlett's face, who only turned away. Scarlett could not bear to look at Luna, whose life was slowly just draining away. It was her fault and the Fates.

"You know, this seems an awful lot familiar. Don't you think so?" Luna breathed out.

It was true. During one of their last fights as enemies, Scarlett got wounded by an enemy's arrow. Luna immediately ran to her aid and held her. That was the start of their love, and now in their final moments, it was the end. Soon after that incident, they both found out that they were soulmates. (inserts joke: oh my god, they were soulmates)

The Fates, however, really enjoyed fucking with the concept of soulmates. Soulmates who come from rival kingdoms. Soulmates who have to live in constant fear of being found out and executed. Scarlett and Luna knew the risks of their relationship but how could they stay apart after experiencing the sparks which flew whenever they touched? Trying to find a way out of this, they both decided to pay the Fates a visit.

"There's only one way out of this. We can reincarnate both of you, however...one of you needs to die."

Scarlett had laughed at their faces and dragged Luna out of there. There was bound to be another way which didn't involve anyone's death. Certainly not Luna. Scarlett obviously disagreed with the option the Fates provided and believed that Luna had shared the same thoughts. Or that's what she had thought before finding a cryptic letter left behind by Luna and then their body in the woods. Scarlett had dreamt of many horrifying things but the sight of Luna's body on the ground was truly macabre. It would be ironed into her brain for the many years to come and the constant reminder of the mistake she had made when suggesting to ask for help from the Fates. What was she expecting, going there out of all places?

"I know for sure that I look much hotter than you right now. I almost forgot how much of an ugly crier you were." Luna joked and a faint smile appeared.

Scarlett looked down at Luna in disbelief and anger.

"Shut up. How could you?! How could you do such a thing?! Why would you do this to me!"

Scarlett's composure was gradually crumbling down, her voice cracking. Luna knew those questions were useless. Scarlett knew why they had done that. It was an obvious choice and an obvious answer. Luna knew Scarlett would react this way which is why they had chosen to leave that message behind and quickly run away. What Luna did not expect was how quickly the effects would come and how intense they would be. Luna's body was slowly shutting down and Luna could not go on any further, choosing to just lay down on the ground instead.

"If me dying meant you living, how could that be anything but good?"

Scarlett was racking her brains, trying to think of anything else but accepting the current situation. She even considered begging the Fates for Luna's life back, but when did the Fates ever listen to anyone but themselves? Whatever Luna had done, it was irreversible and she knew that more than anything. Her heart was breaking at the sight before her. Luna's face was getting paler and paler, their eyes slowly losing that glint that Scarlett adored. Luna's fingers slowly traced over a long, jagged scar which ran along Scarlett's cheek and let out a deep sigh, reminiscing over the memory.
