Senior Year, Baby!

"First day of school! Wake up or you'll be late to your new school." my mom sings as she pulls open my curtains. I moan loudly as I pull my comforter over my head to block out the sudden sunlight that came streaming in.

"It's your first day of senior year, let's start it off on a good note and with a fresh start." she says with an undertone of annoyance. "I'm going to wake up your sister and you better be up by then." she continues as she makes her way towards the door manouvering around half packed boxes and suitcases.

As she leaves I slowly emerge from my cacoon of warmth and comfort. As I'm half way into a sitting position I hear my sister groan loudly and hide as I had just done. A small smile creeps on my face as I find comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in this transition to a new school.

My younger sister Luna starts her sophmore year today and also had to leave behind all the friends we just made to start over in another country because of his high position on the Savant Net. He's been the director of Security for a few years now mainly because of his powers of being able to manipulate density which makes him virtually undeatable in combat. Although this time we didn't have to go overseas for my dad to do his job but instead we were allowed to come stateside.

All of a sudden I heard my sister telepathically. "Why does she always freaking do that?!" she complained.

"She's just excited for us to finally get out of this house and interact with people our own age rather than her and dad." I thought back as I get out of bed and walk over to my doorway to observe my sister from across the hall.

She was still wrapped up in her blanket cacoon. As she slowly emerges I can make out her small nose that we both inherited from our mother and her dark eyes from our dad's side of the family even though we both have them her's are much darker than mine are.

As she starts sitting up the blanket falls from around her head revealing her copper hair sticking up in every direction and I couldn't help but laugh. She shot me a diapproving look and thought "you're one to talk" refering to my unruly curly mess of light brown that refused to be tamed.

"shut up" I replied as I turned around and headed towards my bed and grabbed my laptop to take with me to the bathroom.

I opened it to reveal my background picture of our family at Machu Pichu and started playing music.

I hastly got in the shower as I realised the time and accidentally burned myself twice trying to figure out how the controls worked and accidentally wasted 15 minures and most of the hot water. I scrambled out of the shower and threw the clothes that I was forced to pick out last night. I was never as thankful for my mom's need to be prepared that at that moment.

I then sprinted to the bathroom with only one sock on and bruched my teeth and then my hair. I thought about putting on makeup but decided against it since my freckles hid most of my blemishes and both me and Luna had naturally long and dark eyelashes that didn't really need mascara.

I quickly fixed my curly and sometimes frizzy hair and ran to grab my shoes and momentarily forgetting that my room was littered with boxes, tripped over one and landed flat on my ass. I quickly got up and grabbbed my bag and practically flew out the door and straight into my father. He grabbed me and took a few steps back. The sudden spike of emotion caused a small fire on the sleeve of his shirt.

He quickly jumped back and put out the small fire. "Dang it, Sol. This is my favorite shirt!" he exclaimed.

"Sorry dad. You would think that after 18 years I would have my powers under control by now but I guess not." I giggled

He closed his eyes slowly and started rubbing his temples "Dios mio, does your mother ever not worry? She said she heard two thuds and wanted to make sure you were OK." he said. noticing the confusion on my face he sighed and added "No I do not know why she didn't ask you about it."

I looked at him and raised my hands defensively. "I didn't say anything about it."

Smiling a bit he replied "Sometimes you don't have to. Your face is easy to read."

Suddenly I heard my mother yell "Solis, get your ass down here or you are going to be late for school."

I rolled my eyes and ran down the stairs, grabbed one of the waffles my mom prepared and ran out the door and into the car.

"Come on guys! I don't wan't to be late for the first day of senior year." I told them

I then watched the rest of my family trudge towards the car towards the beggining of our new lives.
