AMALIA'S slumber was interrupted by Matteo knocking on the guest bedroom. "Come in" she mumbled loud enough for him to know that he's in the clear. Matteo walked in and gently laid on the bed next to Amalia. "How ya feelin?" he asked."Hm, I thought I'd be a little more hurt about all of this" she mentally observed herself while extending her arms out to wrap around him, "well that's good because I really didn't want to deal with a sad mal this summer." Matteo joked.
There was a little moment of silence before Amalia broke it, "I was thinking last night..." Matteo looked at her as a cue for her to continue, "remember how I used to go down to cousins beach every summer?" she asked. "Yeah, weren't you like best friends with a guy named Conrad?" Matteo question and she nodded.
"Yeah..." she trailed off, "anyways I think I might head down there if they're okay with it" she continued. "I think that'd be a good idea from what I remember they treated you like family so I don't think it'd be bad" he comforted her while rubbing her back.
boy oh boy was he wrong.
"okay let's go eat breakfast, cause I know you're starving" he joked, while pulling her out of bed. He exited the room she was in for her to get ready for the day.
After a while Amalia finally walked down to the kitchen where Matteo & his mom sat at the island, she sat on the bar stool that was in front of them. "Good morning mal" Giselle, Matteo's mom greets her getting up to give her a kiss on the head, "morning ma" she smiled at her.
"English muffin fine with you?" Giselle asked & Amalia nodded, "Honestly giselle anything you make is good enough for me" she admitted before taking a bite of the sandwich. Amalia looks at her phone and sees that she had a few texts from her younger sister Evelyn.

| there's no way you're letting mom take me to camp
| you were supposed to drive me😒
| why the heck am i hearing you got kicked out?
| come back."So...Matt told me that you might try to head down to Cousins beach this summer, I think it's a good way to get away for a bit" Giselle suggested, "I think that's exactly what I need" Amalia agrees, "hopefully, the fact that I ghosted them doesn't make anything weird" she continued.
In came the afternoon, Amalia & Matteo decided to go on a walk and meet up with their friend, Soraya to smoke. "So um...have you told your mom that you got into princeton?" Amalia asked him, "I actually haven't found the perfect time to tell her" he replied.
"I think you're overthinking it matt, she's such a laidback mom I'm pretty sure she just wants to see you happy and succeed & princeton is a good uni" Amalia empathized giving him a light smile.
An hour later & the 3 friends were sat near a pond a bit high off of 2 joints enjoying the peace that came with the scenery. They decided to go an aquarium that was nearby the pond to get rid of their high over there.
"Look at the sea turtle" Soraya shouted while Amalia trailed behind her leaving Matteo behind who was looking at the stingrays. "Oh god, they're so cute" Amalia admired them while leaning her head on Soraya.
"Just like you" Soraya giggled before giving her a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek, this was normal for them knowing how affectionate they are towards each other.
They spent half of their day at the aquarium and ended up eating edibles at the great falls park.
It was now hitting 7pm & the 3 friends decided it was time to to depart for the day.
It took a good hour for Amalia & Matteo to reach his house due to the amount of walking they had to do. As Matteo unlocked the door, Amalia walked in and noticed that Giselle was fast asleep on the couch and had 90 day fiancé playing on the tv.
Amalia found a blanket and quietly tucked Matteo's mom in before heading up with Matteo. "I'm gonna go take a shower & then we can just chill in my room" he announced before they both departed to go to their rooms.
Amalia hesitated for a moment in her room, a mixture of nerves and uncertainty dancing within her. She stared at her phone, the contact saved as "Susannah Fisher" displayed on the screen. This was a pivotal moment, a decision that could potentially shift the course of her summer, her relationship with old friends, and perhaps even her life's trajectory.
Taking a deep breath, Amalia dialed the number. The phone rang, each ring echoing in her ears like a heartbeat. Just as she was beginning to doubt her decision, a warm voice finally answered, "Hello?"
"Hey, Susannah, it's Amalia," she said, her voice carrying a mix of apprehension and hope.
There was a brief pause on the other end, as if Susannah was processing the name. "Amalia...? Oh my goodness, is that really you?"
Amalia smiled despite the tension in her chest. "Yeah, it's me. I know it's been a while, and I don't want to intrude or anything, but I was wondering if... well, I was wondering if it's possible for me to stay over at the Cousins beach house this summer."
Another pause, this one filled with a myriad of emotions. "Amalia, you don't even need to ask. Of course, you're welcome. We've missed you, and I'm sure the kids will be thrilled to see you again."
Amalia felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Thank you, Susannah. I really appreciate it."
"Anytime, dear. You're part of this family too. Just let me know when you're planning to come, and we'll make sure everything is ready for you."
Amalia's heart swelled with gratitude. "I will, I promise. And Susannah... thank you for this. I can't wait to see everyone again."
As they said their goodbyes, Amalia couldn't help but smile. The summer ahead held the promise of rekindled friendships, healing, and the chance to create new memories alongside the old ones. With newfound hope, she hung up the phone, ready to embrace the unknown adventure that awaited her at the Cousins beach house.
