NIKI AND I made eye contact through the phone. "Ah, hello," Niki greeted, his voice a mix of shyness and respect. He bowed slightly, a gesture that made him seem polite yet a bit nervous. Something was endearing about his bashfulness, and I couldn't help but smile.
I returned the gesture with a gentle bow of my own. "Niki, you don't have to be so formal with me. I'm only a few months older," I said with a soft chuckle, hoping to ease his nerves. The last thing I wanted was for him to feel uncomfortable.
"Sorry," he replied, bowing again, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink. The innocence in his actions melted my heart, and I felt a wave of laughter bubbling up inside me. It was nice to see how genuine he was, and I felt an instant connection that excited me about my upcoming trip to Korea.
After I shared my big news with Jake, his reaction was overwhelming. He insisted on staying on the call with me, refusing to hang up. It was as if he couldn't bear the thought of me packing my bags alone. His enthusiasm radiated through the screen, wrapping around me like a warm blanket. I could see his eyes sparkling with joy, clearly thrilled about my journey.
In the cozy living room, filled with soft afternoon light, Jake settled into a comfortable spot on the couch. Meanwhile, Niki and Heeseung were deep into an intense game of League of Legends, their concentration palpable. The sounds of clicking keyboards and animated shouts filled the air, creating a lively atmosphere. I could see their characters moving across the screen, engaged in a fierce battle, and I felt a sense of belonging in their shared excitement.
"Have you found a place to stay yet?" Jake asked, his voice filled with anticipation. He leaned closer to the screen, his interest piqued.
I hesitated for a moment, knowing I had to explain. "Well, I found a cute loft apartment, but it's still getting prepped. It won't be ready for another two to three months," I said, a hint of frustration creeping into my voice. "I actually need to head to Korea sooner than that to sign papers and take care of some other stuff. I'm not quite sure where I'll stay in the meantime."
Jake's expression quickly shifted from excitement to concern. "What? You can't just be left without a place to stay!" He seemed to think for a moment, and then his eyes lit up. "Why don't you stay with us at the dorm? Seriously, we'll make sure you're comfortable. It'll be fun!"
His offer made my heart swell. The idea of staying with Jake and his friends felt like a safety net, especially during such a big transition. "Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother," I replied, my voice laced with doubt.
"Of course, I'm sure!" Jake insisted, his tone reassuring. "We'll all look out for you. Plus, it'll be great to have you around. Just think of all the fun we can have while you wait for your apartment to be ready."
Jungwon nodded enthusiastically, as he chimed in, "Yeah! It'll be awesome! You'll fit right in, and we can all hang out. You won't feel lonely at all."
I couldn't help but smile at their excitement. "Alright, I guess it does sound like a good plan," I said, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. The thought of staying with them made the move feel less daunting. "But wouldn't the staff have a problem with that?" I question.
"I'll talk with them don't worry about it," Jake reassured before going back to the topic of my apartment. "Do you have photos you can send of the apartment?" Jake smiled in anticipation.
"Yeah hold up," I said before gathering the photos and sending them to him. Jake's eyes widened as he looked at the photos.
"Wow Riri, congrats! It's so nice." Jake stared in awe at the photos as he examined each detail.
Just then, Jungwon joined the conversation, peering over Jake's shoulder and playfully nudging him. "Wow, this is great! You have to let me visit too, Nari," he said, a playful sparkle in his eyes.
Jake shot him a mock glare, a mix of brotherly annoyance and amusement at their friendly rivalry. The sight of them together made me chuckle; it was clear they shared a close bond that was both playful and strong.
"Of course, you guys can come over anytime!" I said, warmth filling my voice. I meant every word, feeling grateful for their friendship and support. The thought of them visiting made the move feel even more exciting.
As the call continued, I watched the boys engage in their game, their playful banter filling the space. The way they joked with each other, the lighthearted teasing, and their shared excitement reminded me of the close-knit friendships I had always hoped to find. With their support, my upcoming adventure to Korea felt a little less overwhelming and a lot more promising.
As it was getting closer to saying goodbye cause it was starting to get late in Korea, we bid farewell.
"Tell Sunoo I said hi when he gets out of the shower." I smiled and Jake nodded in understanding.
"Bye Riri, keep me updated okay." Jake smiled, pointing at me through the camera. I nodded with a laugh.
"Bye Riri!" I heard some other voices out of the screen and I made sure to bid them farewell as well.
