Mermaid

Fresh waters caress my ankles

My smile even the sun rankles

The drops on my skin become pearls

To the most sensible of girls

*

Silver arrows whiz in the waves

Racing each other to the caves

In which warming rays will not sink

There they take cover in a blink

*

Following their flickering lights

I join the fishes in their fights

Curious to see what the prize is

I'm here to make water fizz

*

While my efforts aim to please

To the game I find the keys

Their bodies going all about

If I don't act, they'll win, no doubt

*

My legs unite in one long stem

Watch magic sew along the hem

The seams of a shiny blue tail

See, now I dive in without fail

*

As they see me fishes retreat

Since their new queen they'll have to treat

Bring presents from abyssal reefs

That I will prefer to a thief's

*

Far behind me, on the grey shore

My dull coloured rags stay a bore

Don't make me laugh, they will stay there

Who needs those clothes ? I don't need air ...
