Daeun's pov
"Sujae caught a cold that's why she's not here"
Jake told the teacher.
I sighed, sinking down in my seat.
I have to get through the day alone.
"I can be with you during recess"
Niki said and I turned to him.
"I am not letting you follow me around. Just hang out with Jake"
I said firmly.
"Jake can hang out with other people. Right?"
He faced him.
"Huh?"
-Jake
"See, he's finee"
Niki faced me again.
"But I'll be in the library doing homework"
I made up a random excuse.
I hoped that he would say no after my lame statement.
"Then I'll go with you loser"
He shrugged.
"Suit yourself then"
I tried to play it off.
Timeskip
(Recess)
We both entered the library and sat down at a corner. I laid out the pieces of work I needed to do. I suppose I can make use of this time.
I started with math. Niki rested his head on his fist, watching me do my work.
"Do you like math?"
He asked.
"No? It's all numbers"
I replied, my eyes still on my paper.
"Same. The only number I care about is yours on my phone"
His tone, sly.
I side eyed him and looked back at my paper in silence. He then took a pencil on the table. As I was solving a question, he brought his hand closer to my paper.
He wrote something on the corner. When he moved it away, I read it.
"You're sweeter than 3.14"
I said.
Pi as in…pie. Wow. Very clever Nishimura.
After I finished maths, I went on to do science; chemistry in particular. I had to focus on the compound names.
I flipped to the periodic table and looked for the names of the elements in the question. I felt Niki staring at it too.
"Copper and tellurium is so you"
-Niki
"What?"
My forehead creased.
I looked for those two elements and I left just speechless. Niki is beside me chuckling at his own joke.
Copper=Cu
Tellurium=Te
Copper+Tellurium=Cute
"Enough with your cheesy lines. I'm-"
-Me
"Gonna take my breath away?"
He shifted his face closer to me.
I pushed his face away, rolling my eyes in annoyance. He acted as if he had a lack of oxygen supply and started hyperventilating beside me.
"Shut up. We're in a library"
I said before going back to do my work.
"Okay okay"
Niki replied, finally behaving himself.

Timeskip
(After school)
Niki's pov
The tapping of raindrops were heard against the window panes as we were dismissed from school.
Daeun and I walked towards the entrance and she stopped beside it. She was reaching back to one of the pockets of the bag.
"Sh*t. I forgot to bring my umbrella"
Daeun muttered under her breath as she started to look pissed.
"We can just run home you know?"
I suggested.
"No way am I getting drenched-"
-Daeun
I abruptly grabbed her wrist and pulled her outside, exposing us to the rain.
"NIKI!!"
She shouted.
I was cackling at her reaction as I continued running with her.
She had a hand right above her forehead as she looked at me like she was about to commit murder. We stopped and waited at the traffic light, out of breath.
Daeun pulled her arm away from my grip, brushing her wet hair back with her fingers. I mirrored her actions.
"If I get sick, you're at fault"
She pointed at me.
"Just shower after you get home and put on warm clothes"
I replied.
We crossed the road hurriedly as the light turned green.
"It's raining heavily, idiot. That's not going to stop me from catching a flu"
She said.
"Then I'll be sick with you"
I responded.
"Let's go, your house is right there"
It was just a distance away from us.
After a while more, we arrived in front of her house gates. She entered and got into the shelter while I was still standing outside the gate.
"Daeun! If you're sick tomorrow, remember to invite me over, okay?"
I waved my hand to her when she turned around.
"I'll go now!"
I shouted again before walking away.
I was absolutely drenched.
But I halted to a stop when I heard Daeun shouting back.
"Niki!"
-Daeun
I ran in front of her gate again.
"Wanna skip school together?"
She offered.
"Really? Okay!"
I cracked a smile and waved to her again before running to my house.
I entered and saw my mom watching the tv. She got up when she saw me soaked from the rain.
"You could've waited for the rain to subside a little. Why did you run home?"
She asked worriedly.
"It's fine. I'll be alright"
I accidentally let out a giggle.
I'm clearly not alright after all that.
