Requested by my dear, dear closest-best friend poowywboscuit (Idk why I won't let me tag you."
based off of IRL events me and my dear c-bsf Jenny experienced.
Jenny and Lucy had been the closest best friends since their days in elementary school, forming an unbreakable bond in the 5th grade. Through the years, they had stood side by side, navigating challenges that tested their connection. Amidst the highs and lows, they encountered acquaintances who proved to be foes, individuals who wore the mask of friendship only to reveal their true intentions later on.
The 6th grade brought a shift, a turning point that would etch itself into their memories forever.
In the bustling cafeteria, amidst the chatter and clatter of lunchtime, Jenny dashed up to Lucy with an air of barely-contained excitement. She practically radiated enthusiasm, her news ready to burst forth. Lucy extended a calming hand, a gesture that urged Jenny to temper her exuberance, lest they become the center of attention.
"Lucy, guess what happened at car riders yesterday!" Jenny exclaimed, her words tinged with a mixture of delight and astonishment. Lucy listened attentively, her curiosity piqued. "Who?" she inquired, her guess hitting the mark effortlessly, as always. "M, right?" she added, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
Jenny's eyes sparkled with confirmation. "Yes! I was like totally shocked when he confessed his feelings to me!" Lucy responded with a finger to her lips, a playful hush to ensure their conversation didn't draw unwanted attention. "And what did you say in response? Did you accept his feelings?" Lucy's question held genuine interest, her support evident.
A momentary pause followed as Jenny hesitated, her eyes holding a hint of uncertainty. "Well, I told him I needed to think about it," she admitted, her voice carrying a mixture of hope and hesitation. Lucy nodded, her gaze unwavering. "Whatever you decide, I'll always be here for you," she assured, her words imbued with sincerity.
Their conversation shifted, and Lucy's thoughts drifted to her own relationship, her voice almost a whisper as she shared her concerns. "I just don't want it to end up like my current relationship," she mused, a hint of vulnerability creeping into her tone.
"What did you say?" Jenny's inquiry was swift, her concern clear. Lucy offered a dismissive smile. "Oh, nothing important. Let's grab our lunch," she suggested, steering the conversation toward the present moment as they joined the lunch line.
The anticipation of change lingered, an undercurrent beneath their daily interactions—a precursor to the transformative events that awaited them in the 6th grade.
LUCY'S POV (+ timeskip 2 afterschool)
As Lucy returned home, she found herself dwelling on the complex web of emotions that entangled her heart when it came to her current boyfriend, "J". There were moments when happiness flickered in their interactions, but there were also times when she felt he didn't truly comprehend her, a dissonance that gnawed at her like a relentless ache. The hurtful words he sometimes hurled at her and even her best friend, Jenny, acted as salt on wounds, igniting a furious fire within Lucy, a match set to gasoline.
Yet, despite the turmoil, Lucy remained tethered to "J". Love was a powerful force, a binding tie that she couldn't easily sever. Even though the relationship often tipped into emotional manipulation and mental strain, her affection for him persisted, a testament to the depth of her emotions. A heavy truth lingered: she seemed to bear the weight of the relationship's burden, carrying it almost entirely on her shoulders.
The weight of their togetherness was stifling, a constant reminder of the emotional toll it exacted. "Every day with 'J' feels like a journey through hell," Lucy admitted silently to herself. A shiver ran down her spine as she contemplated the shadows that crept into her thoughts, intrusive whispers and thoughts that threatened to pull her under to a darker fate worse than a toxic relationship.
The room filled with the sound of her sobs, a release of emotions pent up for far too long. Amidst her tears, self-doubt and regrets intertwined. "Why did I rush into something so complicated when I'm this young?" she lamented. "I should've waited, taken things slowly, like the good, good and smart girl I've always been."
"I suppose..I suppose I'm not so smart anymore." Lucy said with a monotone expression as she sat on her bed.
The sobs continued, a testament to the depth of her anguish. "I wanted happiness, but now I'm trapped in a cycle of mixed emotions, feeling both content and discontent, happy and unhappy, all at once," she whispered through the tears.
Lucy's heart ached not only for herself but also for Jenny as she gripped onto one of the stuffed animals Jenny had given her for one of her birthdays a gift she treasured deeply. A fierce protectiveness overcame her as she thought of her best friend. "I don't want her to experience this pain," Lucy resolved. "Jenny is far too pure-hearted, too kind, to be caught in the same terrible oh so terrible journey."
A glimmer of hope pierced through the dark clouds of her thoughts. "But if she ever faces the same fate I did, we'll get through it together," Lucy promised herself. She clung to the unshakable bond between her and Jenny, a connection that had withstood countless trials before. "We overcame so much," Lucy mused, her tears now carrying a note of determination. "And we'll overcome whatever comes our way in the future too...right?"
