"Gryffindor," yelled the sorting hat once it had made the difficult decision on where to place (Y/N) Wolffe, a seemingly ordinary pureblood witch. The midnight-haired girl quickly jumped up and ran to her immediate right, a bright smile on her lips as she followed in the footsteps of Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Lily Evans. A small but nervous giggle escaped her as she found a spot, shaking hands with others in the same house, before watching quietly with them as the rest of the first years were sorted into their houses. Lily's mood soured slightly when her friend Severus Snape was sorted into Slytherin, ensuring they were separated and rivals in house competition. Something neither wanted but had no choice but to accept.

(Y/N) was sure her elder siblings thought the same; all three wanted her to be in their house. Her brothers Joaquin and Qimir were in Ravenclaw; both had promised their parents they'd keep an eye on her. (Y/N) being in Ravenclaw would make that a lot easier. Her sister Helena wanted her to be in Hufflepuff with her and the only sibling to encourage her to be herself, even if Helena had also said she was lonely being the only sibling in the Golden House.

"Hi, I'm Marlene," said a small blonde girl. She sat next to (Y/N) after being sorted. Across from them were Remus Lupin and Sirius Black; Lily was next to Sirius, while James was on Marlene's right. A quieter, plump boy, Peter, was next to James, almost shaking with nervousness as if he was about to run from the hall and break down from fright.

Nonetheless, the group initiated a conversation; James confidently apologized to Lily for an incident on the train, hoping it would be water under the bridge now that they were in the same house. Soon enough, Peter joined in, asking random questions and changing the subject several times while enjoying the feast before them, at least until Dumbledore announced that it was time for them to head to the common room.

Only then did the selected Prefects for each house take charge. Each stood at the end of the table closest to the golden door and called loudly for the first years to join them. Once they were sure all were there, the tour through the castle to reach each designated common room began. Whereas the Slytherin students and Hufflepuffs were led toward the dungeons, the Ravenclaws and Gryffindors were led to the grand staircase. Students of both houses were immediately informed that the stairs liked to move, and many admired the pictures moving and greeting them as they passed. Soon enough, the Ravenclaws were led one way while the Gryffindors went the opposite.

As Blaine, the leading prefect, led the first years through the endless corridors, he'd look back now and again, if only to ensure everyone was still present and nobody had gotten lost or wandered off. He kept a close eye on the four boys at the back of the double line, who seemed happy teasing the small group of girls. A slight grin appeared across the prefect's lips upon noticing at least one of the girls was far more than she initially seemed, and he immediately suspected she would be a handful.

"This is Gryffindor Common Room," began Blaine after the group had filed through the doorway, which was guarded and hidden behind the painting of the fat lady. "Girls' dormitories are upstairs to the right, boys' the same on the left. You'll find your belongings have already been brought up," informed Blaine, allowing the first years to marvel at the common room and explore the immediate area before sending them up to the dormitories to find their rooms and discover who their roommates would be for the next seven years.

The tower was cozy. Portraits of past figures hung on the walls, figures who had achieved greatness at some point in history and were undoubtedly former Gryffindor students themselves. The large open fire crackled with life, warming the area in front of it, the large sofa, and the comfortable armchairs on either side. Several tables were scattered around it, and tapestries with the house colors donned the walls.

Upon entering the dormitories, the group of pre-teens all had the same hope: they'd be paired with people they had already begun to form friendships with, people they would get along with. (Y/N) grinned widely upon finding out her wish had been answered. Marlene had come running down the stone spiral steps with excitement, telling her and Lily they were sharing a dorm, the other two being the estranged muggle-born twins that appeared to avoid each other at every given chance. Allegra and Isolde Smith.
