Work has me by my neck guys but I'm making up for it!

My sheets felt like shards against my skin as I tried to sleep. I couldn't. I spent the night pacing my room, up and down hoping that the doorknob would turn and Sairose would appear in front of me offering me a final chance.

For the first time in six years, she didn't come to my room. I stopped at her quarter last night and turned the doorknob – and it was locked.

It was all the confirmation I needed that  this time I was in some deep shit. And I couldn't blame her. I felt the humiliation myself, standing up on that platform and watching her face drop – and then watching her turn away and leave. I wished that I could've dropped the mic right then and made my way to her, scream from the top of my lungs that this woman was the woman I loved with all my heart but I couldn't. I forced a smile on my face and I welcomed Adrienne, and I even let my parents give their little speech too and although I didn't hear an inch of what they said, I knew that I was too late when I entered that bathroom.

When I finally managed to get some sleep, a soft knock on my door had me flying up from the bed and peeling the door open. I expect to find Sairose, with her hair braided and pushed into that nice bun she always did – and her maid uniform that did absolutely nothing to insult her shape. But it was Eve.

My face dropped, and I sagged against the door that I held open.

"Mr. Chopard," she greeted with a nod, her lips ticked in a thin line. "Your father reminds you that the visitor is set to arrive today. You should be down soon."

"Thank you, Eve," I mutter, and she turned on her heels.

"I'm sorry about last night," I blurted, clearing my throat. "I wouldn't have fired you, that's not who I am."

Eve didn't even turn around to look at me. She brushed her head over her shoulder and shook it. "If that's what you want me to believe, Ledger, then for your sake I will."

With her tone as cold as ice, she continued downstairs. I let out a heavy sigh, keeping an eye out for Sairose but most likely she was already at work. I had almost completely forgotten that Onyx would be arriving today, and I silently wished he wasn't. The only thing I wanted to do was lock Sairose in a room and have her listen to me. I'd beg and beg if that's what she wanted me to do.

I showered hastily, throwing on a pair of slacks with a button-up before I made my way downstairs. The moment I hit the bottom of the staircase, I was graced with the sight of my parents having breakfast.

"Your days of sleeping in are over, Ledger," my father joked. Or at least I thought he was joking, he wore a smile and chuckled at his words but I was never really sure.

"Or they've just begun," my mother winked, dipping her knife into the jam. "Congratulations again, my boy, this is all you've been waiting for."

I forced a smile onto my face but before I could reply, a car roared in the driveway. The three of us glance at each other in confusion, the tires screeching and protesting against the pavement.

I furrowed my eyebrows together, pushing my way outside and in front of me swerved a sleek, black vehicle. It parked and hummed silently, no one emerging from it until my parents came out.  They held hands, my father straightening his spine and I conflicted that this must be who we were waiting on.

Eve and Sairose made their way to the front and upon seeing her my heart lurched in my chest. I had to bite my tongue, nearly forgetting that we were in the presence of everyone, and with that comes regret. All of that could've changed last night had I not been a coward.
