Chapter 156

Qiqi?

Song Juyao was lost in thought as she picked up the cat and examined its lower body. It was indeed a female cat, so should it be Qiqi or Chi Chi?

Without dwelling on it too much, Song Juyao lovingly stroked the cat's head. The feline's legs dangled in the air, clasping onto Song Juyao's arms. It seemed the cat was determined to burrow into her embrace, its enthusiasm and clinginess evident. Carrying the cat, she unlocked the door with her key and entered her abode.

Song Juyao remained convinced that the virtual world was limited in its replication of reality. However, a memory began to stir. Why was this seemingly docile female cat behaving so affectionately? It used to be wild and untamed, resistant to her care, scratching her multiple times after she saved it. She was busy with studies and couldn't devote time to caring for a pet. Hence, she had released the cat back into the wild.

Unanticipatedly, the cat started following her around incessantly. From her laboratory window, she'd spot it perched on a tree branch, concealed behind leaves. While heading home, she would catch glimpses of it trailing her from behind bushes, its large gray eyes radiating an odd luminescence.

After several occurrences, her apprehension waned.

Setting aside her luggage, Song Juyao closed the door and plopped the cat onto the sofa. Much like an old pervert, she grasped its limbs, rubbing and smothering it with fervent kisses.

[A moment of envy for the cat or Song Juyao.]

[I, I, I also want to be pressed and kissed by Yaoyao!]

[Sounds wrong—The domineering female president's little cat... doesn't that sound off?]

[I must admit, I thought the qiqi sound earlier was indicating this cat was Jiang Baiqi. But it's a female cat.]

[Jiang Baiqi is so cute, how could he be a cat?]

[Will Little Dust appear in this chapter? Song Juyao loves him so dearly that she rejected even the king. Thankfully, she won't recall these trials in the real world; it would be cruel to fall for an illusion.]

[I'm not interested in the relationship subplot. I'm eager for the revenge storyline. Will Song Juyao seek vengeance?]

The cat emitted a gentle meow, scarcely audible after the passionate kissing. As if on the cusp of floating away, it abruptly froze, its tiny pink tongue stuck out and forgotten.

Observing its adorable demeanor, Song Juyao extended her hand to stroke its somewhat irregular face. Its nose had suffered due to past abuse. In response, the cat clamped its two fluffy paws around her hand, wildly licking her fingers.

Ah, indeed, humans truly needed kittens. The sensation of being licked by cats was pure bliss.

A thought occurred to Song Juyao, prompting her to lift the cat and inspect it. The sanhua cat appeared clean; apart from scars from previous mistreatment, no other wounds marred its form.

It was all an illusion, after all.

If it were real, it shouldn't be here.

...

In the real world, within the royal palace, the atmosphere chilled to the point of freezing. The king gazed at the live broadcast, his expression growing increasingly stern.

"Dispatch a team to search the vicinity of Song Juyao's previous residence—thoroughly, high and low. Retrieve that cat."

The internal affairs officer, begrudgingly complying, hesitated momentarily. Without delaying, he relayed the king's orders. He pondered—could the cat be Jiang Baiqi? As the king's beloved, Jiang Baiqi required a vessel for movement. Did the king's sudden interest in Song Juyao's cat stem from its possible link to Jiang Baiqi? Only the king himself could remain elusive to his awareness, necessitating the use of his agents to locate the cat.
