Chapter 1: Prologue

It was dull black as far as the eye can perceive...

Nothing but a cold, dark void.

In the middle of this endless sea of darkness, floated a single orb of light.

It tumbled from one side to another like a wooden boat that lost itself in the ocean.

However, this luminescent vessel held a living consciousness that refused to gaze upon the void; out of fear of being swallowed by it.

Alas! Refusing to accept one's fate does not nullify its inevitability.

The darkness creeped up as it pooled around light, slowly dragging it down to its shadowy depths.

A scream of agony was the last sound heard by the unseen before the blanket of silence fell over once again.

I was jolted awake by the sound of my alarm going off.

'Geez... To think my mysterious dream would be ruined by a mechanical clock who only knows how to make excessively annoying ringing sounds.

Those were my thoughts about my current situation before I pulled my blanket aside and got up from my bed.

I did a few stretches and cracked my cramped fingers. I glanced over my shoulder at my alarm and found it was only 7'o clock in the morning. I won't lie and say I'm not a heavy sleeper because I most definitely am.

"Welp, I guess losers can't be choosers." I sighed before grabbing my towel to go freshen up.

To those who are unaware about my identity, allow me to introduce myself to my invisible a.k.a non-existent audience.

I am Jin Satsujin. A 10-year-old who aspires to be the strongest in a world dominated by special individuals who can kill a normal man in a matter of seconds. These individuals are renowned throughout the world as 'Shinobi'.

Yeah... I know I'll probably die considering that even though I'm one of these special individuals. I'm, by all rights, the most average one among them. To make my circumstances clearer, let me take an example.

Suppose you're giving a highly competitive exam where only certain few could pass and advance on to the next stage while the rest would go back home to sulk in disappointment or give up and commit suicide. I belong to the last category minus the suicide part that is.

You see, to be an exemplary shinobi, five certain traits are utmost necessary.

1. Strong Chakra Control

2. Quick Sign Weaving Techniques

3. Mastery Over Multiple Jutsu

4. Excellent Leadership Skills

5. An Iron Will

Among these five traits I've mastered.... Not a single one. My chakra control is horrendous. My hand weaving is slower than a rock. I've not yet learned a single jutsu much less master it. I can't even talk to my classmates without fumbling up my sentences. Finally, the iron will... I can only say that I'm not a hero who can lay down his life for the sake of others.

So, that should be about it for the story of my life. Honestly, I've heard a five-year old's fairy tale having more thrill than this.

I opened my bathroom's shower, letting the cold drops crash against my bare skin. The cool sensation made me forget about the depressing thoughts. After all, 'Every day is a new day'. I closed the shower after a few minutes and wrapped a towel around my lower half before coming out of the bath.
