Where It Started

Leo's pov:

As we finally make it to the final floor in the skyscraper that Donnie had insisted we check out, there was nothing. Despite what his spyroach had detected earlier, everything was silent. It was way too silent for a location that was holding plotting enemies. "Donnie, are you absolutely sure that someone's here?" I asked quietly, looking around in every spot I could to find evidence of someone else having been here. If tonight was a quiet night, that would be great, but we had to be completely sure.

"Yes, I'm sure!" Donnie insisted. "If someone hadn't been here, I wouldn't have dragged you guys along on this mission, I'm sure that I heard something, something important!"

"Maybe the important thing is that Donnie's spyroaches are a horrible idea." Raph grumbled, still hating the use of his worst fear in their missions. "You'd think that after using the dumb idea once and it backfiring terribly, he'd stop using them."

"Cut it out, Raph, you're just upset because you don't like roaches." Donnie retorted, huffing quietly.

"Both of you need to cut it out, we're not here to debate, we're here to make sure that the footclan isn't doing anything here." I shook my head in mild disappointment. If Raph had wanted to argue, he could've gone anywhere else, but he just had to come along on an important mission to argue instead.

"The spyroach was following them, it led straight here and overheard them planning something." Donnie elaborated once more on what he'd heard. "I just couldn't make out what they were saying, I think the microphone was damaged. All I know is that they were in this very room."

"Hey guys...?" Mikey pointed to a shadow, it was an oddly familiar one and it definitely wasn't an inanimate object. "It's Rahzar!" He cried out.

"Good to know you didn't drag me out of my room in the middle of the night for nothing." Raph smirked, obviously excited for some violence. "Let's kick some-"

"Wait!" Rahzar came out from his hiding spot, holding his hands up to us with wide eyes. "I'm not here for a fight, I came to talk things out."

"Yeah, because the twice mutated manipulative prick that's only out to rip our shells off wants to have a friendly conversation over some tea." Raph rolled his eyes. He'd never been fond of Rahzar, even back when he was Dogpound and when he was Bradford. I didn't even blame him, the guy always seemed a bit too self absorbed in my opinion.

"He seems more desperate than usual, he looks genuinely..." Donnie trailed off, not quite knowing the words.

"Alright, Rahzar, we're listening." I folded my arms after putting my dual katanas back into their sheaths. "Just try not to waste our time."

"It's for Mikey." Rahzar pointed to Mikey, looking at him. It gave me a sense of unease, but it wasn't fair for me to give some bad guys second chances if I didn't give him one, right?

"Since when did he know our names?" Raph turned his head to me, gesturing towards Rahzar. "Kind of a red flag, right?"

"Raph, if he tries to trick me, I'll know." Mikey smiled with confidence and walked straight up to the enemy, keeping his nunchucks safely tucked in his hands just in case. "So, what'd you wanna talk to me about?"

"I needed to apologize..." Rahzar looked down, then put a hand on Mikey's shoulder. "I wanted to be your friend, I tricked you because I was scared of what the Shredder would do to me if I didn't listen to him. I could end up dead, or some kind of mutation project, or worse. It's not exactly safe to work in this kind of environment."

"Working for a homicidal maniac isn't safe? I never would've thought." Raph retorted sarcastically.

"Ugh, could you just-?!" Rahzar cut himself off from saying anything else to Raph, rubbing his temples in frustration. "What I'm trying to say is-"
