Yn's pov:
I walk into the firehouse, excited to start my new job. I look around. "You must be yn, I'm Captain Owen Strand," a man says, walking down the stairs. "That's me," I say with a smile. "Hey guys, the new probie is here," a large man with a heavy Texas accent says. "I'm Judd. Nice to meet you," he says. "Marjan Marwani," she says. Wait... That's FireFox! Oh my gosh, don't fangirl yn. "Mateo Chavez, the other probie," a small man says, shaking my hand. This guy is hyper. I like him. "Paul Strickland, nice to meet you," the man over the huge pot on the stove says. "Tommy Vega, paramedic captain," a woman says from behind. "Nancy, nice to meet you," she says with a smile. A cute guy walks up. "Tk Strand," he says with a smile. A dog runs up and knocks me down. "Buttercup!" Cap yells. I laugh. "Hey, you're one big baby," I say. I pet his head. "Buttercup off," Mateo says. The dog backs away. "Yn Yln," I say with a huge smile. "Well, welcome to the 126," Judd says. "Thanks!" I say excitedly. I'm trying to keep my cool, but I'm just so excited. I've failed the test many times due to my dyslexia. But they decided to let me try out here. "Thanks again for allowing me to come here. Hopefully, I can pass the test this year," I say with a smile. "Yea, of course," Owen says. Everyone looks confused, except for Mateo. "Yeah, I've done the test like 4 times. I've got um.. dyslexia.. so it's really hard for me to study," I say, looking down. "I have dyslexia too!" Mateo says. I look up at him. "What?" I ask. "The only reason I passed the exam were these guys," he says with a laugh. "I can lend you the recording they made me, I should still have it somewhere," he says. The alarm goes off. "126 respond, car and semi collision..."
We get there. "Okay, Yln, Chavez, keep the people behind the line until the cops get here. This thing could blow any second," Cap says. "Right," we say. We walk to the line. A man comes running up. "My daughter is in there!" He yells, trying to push past Mateo. "Hey, sir, you need to stay behind the line," he says. I walk over. "Sir, if you distract them, there's a bigger chance of something happening, so let them focus on getting your daughter out," I sat with a smile. He steps back. The cops get there. "Okay, thanks for your help, we'll take it from here," a blonde guy on a motorcycle says. "Is that the father of the kid?" Nancy asks. "Yea," I reply. "You can go to the ambulance now, sir," I say. "Thank you so much, ma'am," he says, running. We get back in the truck once the fire is out for good. "That was amazing, yn, the way you kept that father back," Mateo says. "All I did was tell him the truth, but thanks," I say, smiling. "So, yn, we have game nights," Marjan says. "You ever play Catan?" Paul asks. "No, I don't think that I have," I say.
It's a slow rest of the day. "So, where did you say you were from?" Judd asks. "Can't tell from my accent?" I say with a laugh. "New York," I say. "We're from New York too," Tk says. "Wait, really?" I ask. "Yup," Cap says. "That's so cool," I say. I get home. "Hey baby!" I say happily. "How was your first day at the APD?" I ask. "It was pretty good," Alex says. "Met this nice cop, Carlos," he finishes. "Yeah, mine was pretty good too," I say. "A car and a semi crashed into each other. It was crazy," I finish. Alex kisses me. "Sounds crazy," he says. "They even have game nights from time to time," I say excitedly. "Maybe you can come," I say. "Oh, yeah, that sounds nice," he says with a smile. Today is one of his good days. Thank goodness. We're both happy today. Hopefully, it stays like this a while. But I'm not getting my hopes up. I gotta find a good makeup store, just in case. "Oh, and the people are so nice," I say. "There's the Captain Strand, the paramedic captain, Vega. And this one kid has the same thing as me, dyslexia," I say. "You're so cute when you're excited," Alex says. I smile and hug him. "I love you so much, baby," I say. "I love you, too," he says.
