"She's not fighting the poison anymore. The medication they're giving her isn't working anymore," Gerrard said, approaching the group of us in the hallway outside Caley's room. "She's dying," he said.

After the incident of the previous night, the hospital staff was in a state of emergency to save Caley. She had given up completely. She was unconscious again. The mood was dark and somber. Even the weather outside seemed to know that something was wrong. The sky was thick with black clouds, the wind blew violently against the hospital, and it had been raining nonstop ever since Caley lost consciousness. The atmosphere was ominous and the only thing that I could think was how helpless I felt.

"What happened when you were in there?" Abbey asked, rubbing my back in an effort to relieve some of the pain I was feeling. I felt the eyes of everyone in the vicinity looking at me. Abbey, Lance, Gerrard, Isobel, and this guy named Dom were all there. I shook my head, unable to speak.

"They're saying it's better that she's unconscious again. Because otherwise they wouldn't even be able to give her medication without her consent. Even though she's not responding to it, they can still give it to her," Gerrard said. "Our friend Kia is in there right now. She's from an Air Nation that we visited and she's a monk. She's trying some ancient pain relieving spells right now, but we're not sure how long it'll hold off the poison," he continued to explain.

"But how much longer can she go before it kills her?" Abbey asked, sniffling. She had been crying on and off ever since she arrived at the hospital in the morning. Gerrard shrugged and shook his head. He was pale, too, and he had dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept at all the night before. "They said she could die at any moment now," he said.

I stood up suddenly and everyone stopped talking to stare at me. I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't just sit there and listen to them talking about my fiancee's inevitable death. I pushed past Gerrard and then walked away from the group, wringing my hands together. I could hear them whispering about me, but I didn't care. I needed to get away from them.

I walked up to the nurses at the front desk.

"Do you know where I can find Michael Lucia?" I asked.

"He's speaking with Dr. Medela," the nurse said.

"Where are they?" I asked impatiently.

"In his office, but I'm not sure if you-" the nurse replied, but I walked away before she could finish. I found the doctor's office and walked in without knocking. Dr. Medela and Michael both looked up, taken off-guard with my abrupt entrance.

"Trey, what—" Michael began.

"I want to help," I said.

"I'm sorry, but—" Dr. Medela said.

"I want to help," I repeated.

"Trey, there's not much you can do right now," Michael said. I paced back and forth in the small office. In a fit of anger, I pushed everything off the doctor's desk so that it fell to the floor.

"I have to do something! She's my fiancee and she's dying! I can't just sit there and do NOTHING" I shouted.

"Okay, son, you need to calm down—" Dr. Medela began, standing up to approach me.

"DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!" I yelled, pushing him away.

"Trey, stop. Here. Sit down," Michael said, conjuring up a chair. I glared at him, but sat down anyway. I could feel the blood pulsing through my veins and all I could think about was how there was poison pumping through Caley's and how at any moment, they could declare her dead. The very thought of Caley dying made me want to throw myself off the highest tower I could find.
