After leaving the council members, Aemma walked back to where she was before the meeting.
It was a bit later, 2 hours at the most, when someone called out to her, using her title, "My Queen." Lord Cregan called from behind her
"Lord Stark." Aemma acknowledged
The Wolf of Winterfell stood beside her, "Do call me Cregan, Queen Aemma. We are to be wed in two days."
In hearing his name, Aemma was transported to a little over a year ago where she, Jace, Luke and their mother were on the bridge, hugging them goodbye as she went off to the Vale, Jace went off to Winterfell whilst Luke went to Storm's End. The last time she saw her baby brother. Her ears are buzzing as her mother utters the words,
"Cregan Stark is closer to your age than to mine. I would hope, that as men, you can find some common interest." Her mother had told Jace
"Yes, Your Grace." Jace had replied as he took the message
She was snapped out of the memory by Cregan calling her.
"My Queen, are you well?" He asked
The Queen took a shuddering breathing in, "Yes. Yes, I am well." She lied, "If I am to call you by name, then you must do the same for me."
Cregan looked at her skeptically, "Aemma, I know I cannot know the pain of losing my entire family in horrific ways but I do know loss." He said and she stiffened, "If you wish, I am always ready to listen." He offered
Aemma took another shuttering breath in, "Thank you, Cregan."
She was going to change the topic, however, no matter what she thought of, everything reminded her of her family.
"Would you tell me about Rickon?" She asked
Cregan allowed a small smile to grace his lips, "My son is quiet, prefers to observe despite his age, however he is quick to laughter. He is much like his mother, Lady Arra Norrey, in that way. His sword and bow training had just started when I left. The Raven has been sent summoning my brother and son here. They should be here in the next moon."
Aemma didn't respond, she just looked out at the training yard.
"I need to speak with the former Queen Mother." She thought out loud
Cregan furrowed his eyebrows, "Should I accompany you?" He asked
The Targaryen looked at her soon to be husband, "If you wish. I am allowing her to attend the vigil. While I am not mourning her sons, I am mourning her daughter and grandchildren." She told him
Together they started walking towards where Alicent Hightower was kept.
"A Northerner, Tala? You know they say the Northern men's cocks have frozen off." The ghost of her father told her as he walked in step with them
She let out a quiet giggle. She must really be going mad if the ghosts of her family members could walk and talk beside her as if they were still alive.
"Bona iksos daor drēje, kepa. (That is not true, Father)" Aemma muttered underneath her breath
Obviously, it wasn't true. Otherwise, how could the Northern houses continue if they were eunuchs?
Hearing his wife-to-be giggle and mutter something, Cregan looked at her curiously. Catching his look, Aemma didn't offer an explanation.
What could she say?
She sees the ghosts of her family and they have started talking to her?
Although, she had yet to see Helaena or her children.
Which was understandable. Sweet Helaena and her children suffered terrible fates in a war they had no part in.
Regardless, the Wolf would think her to be mad.
"Mad Queen Aemma, they would call you." Jace teased
Aemma shot a glare at her twin, "Nyke daor vēdros, Jacaerys. (I am not mad, Jacaerys)"
This time, Cregan knew she said something. He might not have spoken the language, but he did recognize her twin brother's name.
He looked to where she was looking but didn't see anything. He was growing worried for his soon to be wife and Queen.
Twice in the meeting, she had whispered underneath her breath while looked at nothing. She had done it twice more since he found her.
But what could he say?
She didn't want to talk about whatever was happening yet.
He would have to keep an eye on her. She had fought hard for her mother's throne, her throne. He wasn't going to let this take it away from her.
Soon, Aemma and Cregan were at the former Queen Mother's apartments. She didn't bother having the guard announce her or her betrothed nor did she knock.
As soon as they entered the room, Aemma and Alicent locked eyes. Aemma looked at the former Queen Mother with no emotion while Alicent looked at the new Queen with despair.
"There is to be a vigil in two days time." Aemma told her, "If you wish to attend to mourn your children and grandchildren, you shall be allowed to."
Alicent looked shocked, "A vigil?" She asked
"Make no mistake. This is to mourn my family. My mother, father, siblings, Princess Rhaenys, Helaena, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera and Maelor." Aemma said, "I will not prohibit you from mourning your sons but they will not be honored."
The former Queen Mother just looked at the Eldest and only surviving child of Rhaenyra.
In all honesty, Aemma reminded Alicent of Rhaenyra and her namesake and grandmother, Aemma.
"The bodies of the Targaryen family are currently lost to us." Cregan told the woman in front of him
Aemma blinked back her tears. She couldn't give her family a dragonriders funeral.
She couldn't say goodbye to them one last time.
Alicent stifled a sob, "I wish to attend." She told Aemma
Aemma nodded and turned to leave the room with Cregan.
"Princess Aemma." Alicent called out, stopping the two from leaving
"It's Queen Aemma now." Cregan corrected, "Surely you know that Lady Alicent."
The former Queen mother bowed her head, "Yes, forgive me, Queen Aemma. I simply wanted to thank you for allowing me to attend."
The Queen turned her head so she was able to look at the woman, "I have shown you mercy as it was my mother's last wish. She did not want to see you beheaded like your father." She told her, "A mistake on her part. As for the vigil, everyone should get a chance to say goodbye one last time. Something that was denied to me when my family was murdered." She said before finally leaving the room
