LA Hospital - 7am

they really make me enjoy my job majority of the time. today they brought the hospital dogs up for the children to see. i really like dogs as long as they're friendly even though i'm kind of allergic. i'll start itching if i touch one. my sweet girl has been trying her best to get to one, but she has asthma. dogs are one of her triggers, so they won't allow the puppies inside her room.

i don't know what to do.... she's sad about it. more so mad. i've been doing everything in my power all day to keep her happy because i still haven't heard from her parents. it's confusing me. it's like they just disappeared.

i'm super lost.

i've called them so many times. it always ring twice before hanging right up. so maybe their phone is broken? i don't know.

"but ms.nicki please!"

"sweetie i can't...you just got off of your mask. do you wanna be back on that? then you won't be able to eat any actual food or anything for as long as you're on it. you'll be stuck hungry babe."

"it's just a dog! i just wanna pet emmmmm." she whined seeing the puppies outside of her door. i sighed chewing on the inside of my lip. what do i do? if anything happens to her i could lose my job.

"i'll see what i can do alright?" i whispered to her before giving her a kiss on her forehead and leaving her room. she's always making me feel bad, gosh. "hey.... is there anything we can do so she'll be able to see the dogs? it's making her really sad that she can't pet them."

the other nurse stopped from with the dogs and looked at me. she glanced at the room seeing my girl pouting. at least she's good at going with the flow. that pout is what'll get it. good girl.

"only thing i can think of is giving her a face mask and a suit." she gave a playful grin but that's actually really smart. as long as the fur isn't being inhaled, she's good. because that's what she's allergic to and will clog her up. "you're not actually thinking of that are you?"

"i am..."

"oh god.... let's go."

yes!

"look ms.nicki! the dogs like me!"

"that's cute. let's take a picture." i got my phone out then bent down to her level. the little dog kept jumping up on her legs so i got a good picture of her smiling with him on her. it was so cute. even with her wrapped in a plastic suit. "you having fun?"

"yes!! i love these dogs!!" she started to run around with them. i have to watch her closely because we took her off of everything for this. so if there's even a small sign of anything, we have to move her back instantly.

our goal is to get her out of here, not keep her longer. no matter how much we enjoy our patients.

"if you feel anything, you let me know. don't ignore it because of the dogs. understand me?" i made sure she was listening. we don't need her fun to block her from putting her health first. cause she'll feel it before we notice it. "promise me you'll tell me."

"i promise. you said my breathing is the number one thing."

"right. so no matter how much fun you're having, you're supposed to stop and do what?"

"tell someone!"

"good job. i'll give you some candy when we get you back hooked up."

"ok! can i go play now?"

"go ahead." i stood up straight and crossed my arms to watch her. for some reason i feel like i have protect her. as if she's my child or something. it's like we have this bond, so i have no choice. she's a child that trusts me, i'll never give up on her.
