sorry if there are any errors. because of my spotty internet, wattpad may not have saved all of my changes. xo.

Edward should mind his business. He knows he should, but he can't. He can't explain it, but he couldn't erase that image of Jacob's frightened face out of his head. The way he looked at Edward like he knew. Not as if he was just scared by how fast the car was moving, but as if he could see right through Edward. Jacob could see Edward for what he truly was and it unnerved him.

Edward had heard about the group of cars after more information came out. He'd heard about how impossibly fast they were going. Carlisle had found out about it from Charlie when he'd visited the hospital. Charlie seems to have chocked up the speed of the cars to his brain trying to process what had happened. It was merely his mind playing tricks on him.

Edward knew better. Apparently, so did Jacob. Honestly, Edward was counting on him knowing. Thought that if he put it out there that there would be the slim chance that Jacob didn't care. It never occurred to Edward that a vampire might've been involved in Billy's accident.

It just seemed so out of place. A weird "animal attack" happening sets off alarms in Edward's brain, not a car accident. A car accident could involve anyone...

and maybe that's why they did it.

Who were they?

Who'd hit Billy and Charlie? He'd been trying to figure it out for days. He couldn't just go snooping around, asking around town. Not only would he sound insane, it would be so out of place for him that people would notice. It could possibly tip them off.

So, he'd resorted to watching. He'd specifically been watching Billy's store from afar. He tried to be a bit subtle about it, hoping that if he lurked long enough, the group of cars would come rolling through and he could get a better look at what he should be searching for.

Except, Jacob comes strolling down the street. It's pouring buckets, had been since that morning, and Jacob was just waltzing around in it as if he hadn't yet noticed. Granted, he looks distraught.

He looks distraught and Edward shouldn't bother him. He should just pretend like he hadn't even seen him. He intends to do just that right up until he sees a flicker of something in the distance. It's moving so fast that he mistakes it for a light blinking. That is, until he really focuses on it...really focuses on them. He can hear them, hear their thoughts. Not only that, but he can smell the blood. It's heady even with the smell of rain heavy in the air.

It's strong enough for him to be able to tell that it's not all human.

The thoughts are loud enough for him to know that they're disgusting

So, that's why he starts up the car.

He starts up the car and tries his best to keep his foot light. He doesn't want to spook Jacob; he just wants to keep an eye on him. He creeps along behind him for a bit before Jacob realizes he's being followed.

Jacob isn't happy about it. Edward doesn't expect him to be. He just wants to make sure they don't get the chance that they're waiting for. They want Jacob alone.

Honestly, it's a relief when the old, red truck pulls up behind him. He's not sure why. He knows that it's most likely just Bella. Bella, who according to her family history, doesn't morph into a giant dog. However, there's something about her that must have some ties to the supernatural world, because there was no other explaination for how much she scared the shit out of Edward. Even if there isn't, she's not alone. He can smell the distinct scent of a different werewolf as Bella rolls her window down.
