"May! Do you have your shoes on?" I yell across the house to my daughter. The first day of school can be stressful for both parent and kid. I throw in the last notebook in her bright yellow backpack with a rainbow pattern sewn across it.

"Yeah!" She hops into the room with a big smile on her face. I couldn't help but smile along with her energy. I zip you the backpack and hand it to her.

*DING DING DING*

My alarm goes off.

"Oh my, it's time to leave already" I grab her hand and we both walk outside. We get to the end of our driveway where the bus should be any minute. May stands there swaying her arms back and forth.

"Excited?" I smile.

"Yeah! I can't wait to see alllll my friends!" She laughs. The whooshing sound of the bus comes from behind the corner and I look at May one last time to make sure she has everything. The bus comes to a stop and it's doors open.

"Bye! Love you!" I shout.

"Love you too mommy!" May walks up the stairs into the bus and I watch as it drives away. I walk back inside and sigh. They really do grow up quickly. I grab a washcloth and a dime of dish soap and start scrubbing the glass plates piled up in the kitchen.

*Whoosh*

My heart drops. Everything in those seconds felt like years. I look up and see the real bus arrives..
