"Good morning class!" The new teacher exclaims, waving her arms around as she speaks, so enthusiastically that it's visibly hurting her students' eyes. "How's everyone doing today?"
The class responds with unanimous silence, looking amongst each other with groggy faces and clearly sharing the same thoughts. They all just don't want to be here.
"Oh, we're great!" Someone shouts all of a sudden, their fake eagerness making the class laugh and show any signs of a positive mood for the first time this morning.
The teacher rolls her eyes impatiently, "It's your first day, what's wrong with all of you? Where's the bright smiles and whatever else I'm supposed to see on this lovely monday morning?" She jokes, watching with satisfaction as her class erupts into a wave of groans and disapproval. "So does anyone know why you're all standing at the back of the classroom right now?" She asks inquisitively, crossing her arms over her chest and looking around the classroom for anyone willing to talk this morning, But the classroom seems to be frozen in time. Not a single soul wants to speak to her, and she can tell just by their vacant facial expressions. "Okay, wait while I try and find it..." She says mysteriously, speed walking out of the classroom and closing the door behind her, leaving the classroom, it's students and the silence between them inside.
Sooner or later, the silence slowly but surely turns into chatter and laughter as everyone begins catching up with one other after perhaps not seeing each other over the long summer holidays. Everyone except for Haeun, who awkwardly stands between her classmates, clearly not in the mood to talk.
Instead of interacting and being social, she has her nose stuck in the screen of her phone. She furiously types a message to her friend with her already aching thumbs, a boy beside her unintentionally gaping at how fast she is typing.
