Felix looked up; he did not expect anyone to come by. In fact, he was preparing to take a much-coveted nap before Linde stole away his free time. She wanted to meet up with him. He did not have a clue why she wanted him to but given the fact she asked him instead of telling him to do, it was probably something unusual.
He took an orange fruit out of his mouth. It was a fruit that he had never seen before and as such, he brought it in the market of Stillwater. The fruit was quite juicy once he got through the tough outer layer. Though he did have to say that he did not enjoy the outer layer as much as the sourness that was underneath it. The one he pulled out of his mouth was the second one he ate thus far. Felix ran his hand through his hair before he approached the door.
"Who is it?" Felix asked. There was no response to what he said which pushed Felix into opening the door a couple of moments later.
It was Elke, she was in a different outfit than the one she recently bought. She was in a nice sundress, with a belt pulling in the middle and her hair was in a nice braid down the middle of her back. Felix blinked at her for a couple of moments, why was she there? That was not a question that would remain inside of his head. "Why are you here?"
Elke looked off to the side, averting his gaze before she looked down at her hands. "Can you come with me?"
"Sure." Felix would follow her to the ends of the earth. In fact, that was what he was currently doing. Elke smiled at him in thanks before she turned around and walked away. He supposed that she wanted him to follow after her. Felix quickly grabbed his cloak and ran after her where he caught up with her just in front of the inn that they were staying at. "This won't take too long right?" Elke looked at him curiously. "Linde wants to have lunch with me." Felix explained.
Elke shook her head. "An hour, maybe."
"Alright." Felix nodded as this as he followed behind Elke. They walked through the town of Stillwater without saying another word to each other. Felix took in the surrounding town. The biggest difference from the last town they were in was the distinct lack of stone pathways. Apart from that, it still was primarily made up of wooden houses with water-resistant roofs. They seemed to be built on better ground than the last town but a shower from a couple of days ago was still evident in the ground.
A couple of kids ran past them as they passed a ball back and forth with their feet. Felix could not tell what the ball was made out of as it was covered in mud, but the same thing could be said about the kids. They seemed to be just old enough that their mother was not supervising their every move but young enough that their mothers really should. Given the amount of mud that they would end up tracking into their house, his mother would have definitely given him an earful. She would have probably made him clean it up as well.
Felix sighed as he looked away from the foolish kids. They were doing what kids did, moving without thinking, without consequences. He did not remember a time in his childhood that was like that. Given that he was a part of a noble house he would always have to uphold the status that his parents bestowed upon him by birth. It was clear to Felix now that would have never lived up to what his father planned for him.
That was totally fine. His father was barely a parent to him. Over his decade living there, they enjoyed one interaction together. It was the day before he left. Felix did not know how he managed to find out that Felix was doing illegal things, but he did. He told Felix that he was to stop what he was doing, or he would be disowned. Felix just made his father's job easier by just running away. For a long time, he wondered whether or not his father would take him back if he went to him and begged. It was still an idle thought that echoed in the far recesses of his brain, but now it was nowhere near as prevalent as it once was.
