"My prince, please" my adviser rushed. I move to my desk throwing off my cloak. Sitting up in my chair I grabbed a quill and mulled it into some ink. "Sire, did you find what you needed" he inquired. I continued to ignore Quinton's fretting. Serphane Hawthorne, I smiled.
She was enthralling. Brown skin that reminded me of the chocolate riches the baker used. Her hair hit just above her shoulder in curly waves. It wasn't a normal blonde or brown color. But a cool calm black. Like a raven. Entranced by her eyes that were green with flecks of brown. Something pulled at me and I wanted to see her again.
If her getting a job here might give me the chance to gaze upon her captivating beauty then so it. I folded the paper and stamped my royal seal. I held the note out to Quinton. "What is this" he frowned. "Give it to the hire keep" I ordered. I couldn't stop the smile that lingered on my face.
"You...You" he stuttered. I stood up huffing "I would like to be alone Quinton" I urged. He pushed his glasses further up his nose. I could tell when Quinton was about to go on a rant. I turned him around pushing him towards the door.
"But my prince. The nobles have spoken-". I cut him off "It has been a long day. I would like to retire" I smiled brightly. Quinton nodded "Right". I looked at the letter in his hand "Make sure you send that off tonight". He propped up a finger and his mouth opened widely. Another question was coming but before he could speak I closed the door.
I turned around looking at the ceiling. I leaned off the door stripped myself of my old clothes and changed. I blew out the candles and slipped into bed with my night attire. Looking at the ceiling of painted angles and cupids. Something felt incomplete since I was born.
Being with her earlier I felt whole, completed. Leaving her side was like being attached to the same rope. Hard and strained. I closed my eyes drifting off to the same dream.
"Sicilian" the girl screamed. I struggled as our grip on each other loosens. People pulling me away and her the same. Stains of war all around us but I don't care. Her tear-stained cheeks and terrified eyes pain me. "I'm sorry" I croak.
A man in all black who walked with power moved toward us. He holds a blade dragging it across the bloody field. My eyes keep wavering between the girl and that man."He's gonna kill you" she screams. I shake my head "I won't let you go. I let you go before and I promised you I would never do it again" I bellowed.
She sniffled and hissed at only our fingers still keeping us together. I pushed forward and grasped her hand. "We're gonna get out of this" I vowed. She was no longer looked at me but at the man a mere step away. "Look at me" I shouted. Her gaze snapped back at me.
She smiled softly "I love you". "I love you too" I groaned. "And you're right. You're not gonna let go cause you promised. But this time I will". My eyes went wide as she let go of my hand. "Julia" I screamed. The man in black took one look at me and paused. His eyes were red and I could see that he wasn't human.
His eyes moved to Julia and I struggled against the things that continued to hold me back. "Don't you touch her" I gritted out. "Don't do this" I pleaded. The beings held Julia down with her legs and arms spread apart. "This will keep happening till you understand" the all-black soldier being answered.
"Understand what"? I fumed. He lunged the sword into the air and swiftly brought it down. I watch in pain and hate as the man pierces my precious Julia's heart.
My body sprang awake as I whispered "Understand what"? Looking around the room I noticed it was daylight. I rustled my hair and stretched. The same dream or nightmare I've had since I turned 5. For me, it always seemed like a memory. I shake my head ringing the long decorated rope.
Five minutes later two maids come in. "My prince" they bowed. I ran through my routine with them bathing me, and styling my hair. Luckily for me, I was able to get them to let me dress myself. When Quinton came in going over my internairy as I ate. I was reminded of the letter I sent yesterday night.
I stood up abruptly stopping Quinton from speaking. "Did you send the letter I asked you to"? I held Quinton's arm causing an awkward atmosphere. "Of course, my prince". I grinned kissing him on the cheek. "Thx, Quinton" I yelled.
Running out of the door. I passed through the maids and the knights. I never felt more alive hoping the news would be in my favor. I got to the offices where all the head staff members were. I halted at the head maid's room knocking on the door.
"Come in". I walked in and she quickly stood up. "My Prince" she smiled. "I was wondering if you saw the letter I wrote" I quipped. She nodded "Yes, Ms. Hawthorne has been sent an invitation". "Thank you," I say hiding my smile. I left clutching my heart I will be seeing you again, Seraphane.
