"Oh shit.."
"Joel! Y/n! Grab an extra bottle and take the high rise pack to the second floor, we'll stage there. We gotta get everybody out of here!"
We both gave him a quick nod before Joel grabbed two extra airtanks and I slung the highrise hose bundle over my shoulder. We marched our way to the second floor, guiding the remaining people down to the stairs before setting up our SCBA's.
Command to all units, the flames are showing on the Alpha side near the Alpha/Delta corner.
I slipped my mask over my face, and then my hood and helmet on as I made my way to the standpipe, hooking it up to the hose and then turning it on. By time I turned around, Joel was masked-up and ready, so I gave him a quick nod and we walked up the stairs to the third floor.
Squad 1, Squad 1 is making entry to the 3rd floor.
I pulled my regulator from my belt, and lifted it to my mask, pushing it in and twisting before taking a deep breath, and trying the door.
It was locked. Figures.
Joel bent over and broke apart the halligan and axe, getting ready to force open the door, but I quickly held out a hand, stopping him before turning around and throwing my foot back, kicking it open.
The door swung open, and we were immediately met with thick, gray smoke, clouding our vision completely. I moved forward with the nozzle, crouching low from the heat, but refusing to slide on my knees.
"SEARCH THE ROOMS ON THE RIGHT, I'LL TAKE LEFT. MEET ME BACK AT THE HOSE BETWEEN EACH ROOM! GO!" I called out to Joel, and we sprung into action, banging on each apartment door.
"FIRE DEPARTMENT! IS ANYONE IN HERE?" I kicked open each door, shutting them behind me as I searched each room in the dark. We continued to meet back at the hose, advancing it further down the hall as we continued our search.
It wasn't until we advanced the hose half way down the hall, when I nearly tripped over something laying on the ground in front of me.
"STOP!" I shouted, using my other hand to feel in front of me because I couldn't see anything, but after a few seconds I quickly recognized it as a body.
"WE GOT ONE! I'LL CARRY HER, TELL COMMAND AND 2ND FLOOR STAGING THAT WE HAVE ONE!"
I flipped the body over onto the back side and pushed them to a seated position before wrapping my arms underneath them and standing up, dragging them to the stair case behind us. Joel quickly notified dispatch before finding the feet in front of me and lifting them. I pulled the door open to the stairwell, instantly meeting another one of our guys at the landing of the stairs, quickly taking the body from us, and allowing us to go back in.
"Y/N, GET TO THE NOZZLE AND KEEP MOVING, I'LL PULL YOU MORE LINE!"
"GOT IT!"
I moved quickly, but stayed low as I followed the trail of hose line back to the nozzle, and picked it up, pulling it until I saw the dim glow of orange appear on my left. I dropped to one knee, tucking the hose line under my right arm before opening the bale and attacking the fire, clouds of evaporated water clouding my mask. I watched as the flames began to spread up the wall, and I followed it with the hose, spraying it as much as I could, until the dim glow began to fade.
