“This don’t mean shit and you know it.” Jessie tells himself, internally fighting as he pulls up to Alyssa’s house.
As he continues to internally argue with himself, he gets out of his truck and heads to Alyssa’s door.
“Officer.” Alyssa smiles, opening the door.
“Call me Jessie ma’am.” he says.
“Please, call me Alyssa. Ma’am makes me feel old.” she chuckles as she invites him inside. “Coffee?”
“Black, two sugars.”
Alyssa leads him to the kitchen where she makes coffee for the both of them. Carefully handing him the mug, she heads to the study in the back of her small apartment.
“I’m terribly sorry its such a mess.” Alyssa laughs nervously.
“No worries Alyssa. This isn’t formal at all.” Jessie chuckles.
The two take a seat, one on each side of the desk facing each other. Jessie pulls a file out of his jacket and sets it on the desk.
“Alyssa, I have been signed to your case, sorta.” Jessie starts.
“Sorta?” Alyssa interrupts confused.
“Let me finish.” Jessie laughs. “All of our evidence points to you being the murderer, hence why you were arrested and made our number one suspect. I however do not believe it was you. So I begged my boss to let me take your case. I’m not here to prove you’re guilty, but to prove you innocence.”
“So, where do I fit in?” Alyssa asks.
“I’ve gone through the case file multiple times now, and theres pieces missing. Like how you managed to get to the James’ house, how you got into the crash, murder weapon is missing, and the only thing that points to you is DNA, as well as tire tracks, and an alleged camera recording.”
“Wow. So, you need a timeline, motive, and the murder weapon.”
“And we only have two weeks to solve it. Are you up for it?”Jessie asks giving his award winning smile.
“Yes.” Alyssa says without hesitation.

Jessie decides at six o’clock in the morning, he couldn’t wait any longer to phone Alyssa. That woman was just so damn gorgeous and he couldn’t seem to help himself. He knew he had feelings, but the case was more important.
Alyssa wakes up to her phone ringing. Rolling over, she looks at her clock before answering the phone.
“Who the fuck is calling at six in the morning?” She grumbles.
“Alyssa, its Jessie, I have a lead. Wanna come over for breakfast?” he asks.
“Its six in the fucking morning Jessie, this couldn’t have waited?” she groans.
“We only have two weeks, every second counts. I’m making bacon.” he bribes.
“Should’ve started with that.” she laughs. “I’ll be right over.”
When she hangs up, Bear meows at her. Smiling, she kisses her cat on the head and gets up.
“He’s the same as before. Yet somehow better, easier to communicate with. All these childhood feelings are being dredged up and it scares me.” Alyssa admits to her cat.
Bear just meows and rubs against Alyssa’s legs. Alyssa picks her up and pets her. Taking a deep breath, Alyssa heads to her bathroom. After a shower, she throws on a sweater and leggings, applies light makeup, slips on her boots, and heads out the door.
After a twenty minute walk, Alyssa decides to call Jessie. Not having a car makes things much more difficult, and Jessie's house wasn’t exactly in town.
“Hey, are you on your way?” Jessie asks.
“Sorta. I walked about twenty minutes, but you don’t exactly live in town, and my car is still broken. Can I get a ride?”
“God damn it. I totally forgot your car was broken. I’m so sorry. I’ll come get you.”
Neither wanted to hang up as Alyssa stood outside waiting for Jessie. No words were spoken, knowing the other was there was enough, Alyssa felt safe, and Jessie felt content. Silent conversations flowed between the two of them like a river. For once, silence was welcomed, for it offered them comfort, the kind of comfort they never thought they’d find, and somehow have found within the other. The world fell away, and there was absolutly nothing that could ruin this kind of feeling the two shared. Or so they thought.
