Chapter 3 DEV

"You said you wanted to go home early today" Samyak talks to me for the very first time.

I look at him because I don't recall saying that at all. But he looks at me with cool eyes not giving me any hint to what he wants me to say , so I just go along.

"Yes my dad is expecting important guests today so I'll have to be there ." I smile and say it doubtfully.

"Dev you want me to drop you home?" Nikhil asks acting like the very gentleman he is. But then the look on Deshna's face isn't very pleasant.

And thankfully Alina gets the hint , looks at her watch and goes "oh god look at the time" then looks at me, "we have to leave together Dev."

"Yes and if you guys don't mind I'll be leaving now too." Samyak says it so fast as he gets up from his seat and makes his way towards my seat.
"Shall we?" He says OFFERING HIS HAND. TO ME.
"Y-Yes" I hesitantly take his hand and we leave with Alina.

"That was amazing Samyak. How did you know Dev wanted to leave?" Alina asks.

"She did? Thought it was just me , so I used her name as an excuse." Samyak says much to my disappointment. And I thought he's my knight on a white house here to save me but I guess not.

We walk home in silence dropping Alina to her boyfriend's place first .

"You don't like Nikhil?" Samyak breaks the silence. What the hell?

"Umm no he's my best friend I love him like my family." I say honestly.

If Nikhil wasn't here I wouldn't be who I am today. He's the light to my shadow to be honest. He takes all my sass and gives back warmth and love. Because that's the kind of person he is.

"Oh I'm sorry then you don't like Deshna, is it?" Now we're talking.

"I- Well I don't dislike her but I won't say that I like her either. It's just like that. Messed up. " I come up with the best answer I can.

"Uh huh" he replies.

The rest of the walk is strange. It's silent but not awkward. It feels like I'm walking with an old friend of mine like it's a normal everyday thing.

We bid our goodbyes after he drops me to my place and walks away.

THE NEXT DAY

"Hey, I'm sorry about yesterday. Me and Deshna were just , you know-"

"Hey hey hey its alright my bad. I wanted to show Samyak around and the cafe was the first place I could think of . Not your fault." I interrupt a nervous Nikhil.

"Oh. Showing him around? You guys close now?" Okay. He sounds mad now.

"Not close. Obviously not close. We go to the same tuition Nikhil. " My best friend has major abandonment issues and I know he's not jealous. He's just scared of being replaced and I've been dealing with this forever and it's okay.

"Right."

"Hey Dev and Nikhil " I hear Samyak call us from his seat.
