I'm Back?

As I wake up, I take sight of my surroundings. The vibrant grass, the trees, the people running about.

I'm outside.

I jump to my feet, and my head feels abnormally heavy. I go to place my hand on my forehead, but am instead met with cold, hard plastic.

My heart races as I look around. Suddenly, I remember my fight with Henry. We beat him, and everyone moved on but me. Was I wrong? Is this the afterlife I had expected never to see? Are the others here with me?

I was lost in my thoughts, until a phone-headed person tapped me on the shoulder. I snapped out of my thoughts and met eyes with his dial.

"Sorry, sir. I-" As I spoke, I took a moment to look at this person.

Their skin was a strange shade of green, with a chest portraying six nipples, along with a long green tail which twitched like a cat's. And looking at their phone-head, it seemed to be made of flesh and fabric stitched together.

"What- Who are you?" I managed to stutter out.

"I, Phonegingi." This, uh, creechur, surrounded me like a shark. Eying me.

"I'm Jack." I've seen a fair share of strange things, yet this had to be the weirdest. Phonegingi seemed docile enough, but I wasn't so sure.

"You, me, funfair?" Phonegingi's dial stares uncomfortably into my eyes, as if they were making eye contact with me.

"Funfair?" I repeat, taking another quick look at my surroundings.

"Yes, orange man. Funfair." The phone-cryptid sighs, crossing it's arms. "I don't possess money to get myself in to lay my eggs."

"Your what???" I almost choke on my own saliva out of shock. "You lay eggs?"

"Oh Phone-God I hope so. I'd rather eggs than puppies."

"Ah, um, how much is it to get in?" I scratch the back of my neck. This is so fuckin weird.

"$2 for 2." I take a moment to think, before looking at Phonegingi. They start to seem desperate as they plead.

"Yeah, sure. I'll take you." I pat their leathery head, which causes them to purr quietly.

~~~
"God dammit." I hiss as I search my pockets, eventually finding two wadded up dollar bills. I attempt to unwrinkle them before walking up to the ticket stand.
"Greetings, uh-" The man behind the glass, Jerry, takes a look and facepalms (Phonepalms? idk). "Oh god, you're orange."
"And what does that have to do with anything?" I cross my arms, looking around.
"Nothing. Are you going in alone or..?"
"I was waiting for someone." I scowl, though my face doesn't seem to be changing. As I look back at Jerry, I see Phonegingi pop up in front of me.
"T I C K E T J E R R Y ."
"Oh god, why him!?" Jerry cries out.
"Do you have a problem?" I attempt to smooth out the dollar bills before hastily handing them over. "Two tickets, please."
"You know he's only here so he can lay his eggs or whatever, right?" Jerry groans as he hands over two tickets.
"I do. He made that quite clear to me." I take Phonegingi's green hand as I attempt to smile at the cryptid. My face still doesn't feel like it's changing.
~~~

"Alright. Do you want to do something before, you know." I look at my green partner, who's tail is happily swaying. He looks back and nods. "Any suggestions?"

"Ferris wheel!" He does a weird, yet admittedly cute, animalistic growl as he grabs my hands, dragging me to the ferris wheel.

"Alright, alright!" I chuckle. For once, I feel like I'm something but an empty shell of flesh. This childish creature makes me feel like I have some sort of soul inside of me, allowing me to feel anything but numb.

~~~
As we sit on the ferris wheel, I watch Phonegingi as he leans over, inspecting the scenery around him in awe.
"Are you having fun?" I ask as we stop at the top of the wheel. He clings onto me, nodding.
As we sit at the top of the ferris wheel for what seems like hours, it starts to go down. In the distance, fireworks explode, lighting up the sky in numerous colors.
As we're about to get down, Phonegingi starts to whimper and huff in an almost pained way. Quickly, I search for a spot for him to lay, coming across a patch of dirt behind one of the rides.
As we get off, I pick him up and run over to the patch of dirt, sitting him down. I sigh and sit with him for the whole thing.
(hell naw. if y'all thought i was gonna write that shit ur dead wrong ☠️)
~~~

"Are you okay to get up?" I place a hand on his as he lays in the dirt next to a bundle of eggs the size of bowling balls.

"No, just leave me here."

"Well, I'll stay here with you. It's not like I have anywhere to go." I lay down next to Phonegingi, taking in his warmth. He wraps his arms around me as he falls asleep against my chest.

I attempt to do the same, but I can't stop thinking about him. That aubergine idiot.

No, Jack. They're long gone. You have to move on.

I look down at the green creature embracing me, and eventually fall asleep.
