"Siddhant. Bete ek baat sunn." Aisha Sharma, Siddhant's mother, softly called him one more time. And his reply was just a groan.
(Dear, listen to me.)He has a big family. With his mumma, papa, bade papa, badi maa, chachu, cousins- Miheer, Gautam and younger sister Sirat, it was almost impossible to get a moment of privacy in their big fat house. More like a haveli.
(Translation at the above)And right now, he was trying to have one of these rare privacy moments. When his mother decided to invade it, calling his name for the eighth time within the spane of thirty five minutes.
"Ab kya hua mumma?" He opened the door with a frown. The poor man was trying to have a short nap of half an hour but guess, resting wasn't in his fate today.
(What happened now mom?)After been working for two weeks straight on a high society project in Kashmir, he had returned back home just today morning. And as soon as he came back home the first news he got was about his blind date with a family friend's daughter.
(An Indian state)Not giving it much thought he just shrugged and said he would meet her. But not before getting his much needed nape.
And here his mother was, having a sky blue shirt in her hands, well pressed and folded with white pants. She had already decided what he'll be wearing today to meet her future daughter in law.
Yes, she had made a mind to make Chavi her daughter in law already. Infact, the whole house had.
Him being the eldest son and the first born of the family, they all had high expectations with him. May it be academics or relationship, they always looked forward to get to know about his.
In the first sector, he had proved to be extremely successful. On of the top Architects of not only Indore, but whole India at a young age of 28, he had even recieved numerous top tier awards for the same. His work is great like that.
And now about the second sector, the relationship one, his family is making efforts to get him lucky.
They all had met Chavi once or twice in family events and knows such a sweetheart she is. That's why they all are so adamant to make her a part of their clan.
"Yahi pehen ke jaana aaj. Bohot handsome lagega." Aisha said to him with a smug smile. And he looked at his mother unbelievably. Did she really just broke his power nap for this reason?
(Wear this today and go. You'll look very handsome.)"Aapne-
"Bas bas malum hai mujhe. Sona hai tujhe. Ja soja ab nai bulaungi. Goodnight." Saying this she went away from their while humming a song. He tho, kept standing their shocked on his place.
("You-
"Okay okay I know. You have to sleep. Now go and sleep, I'll not disturb you again.)"Aur bhai...blind date ha. I see." It was Gautam. As soon as Siddhant was going to close the door, he came and walked inside his room without permission. Again.
(And brother)"Gautam Sharma! How many times am I suppose to tell you not to enter my room like this." Siddhant said obviously irritated.
"Like what?" Gautam asked innocently.
"Like casually. This ain't your normal park or something to enter just like that." He was in need of rest and his family was giving him everything except that. Everything including headache.
"Offo Bhai. You're still a grumpy pant. Ab bhabhi ane wali hai. Thoda has toh lo." As soon as these words left Gautam's mouth, Siddhant realised. He was going to get married soon. And this sent a wave of panic and amusement in him.
(Now you are gonna have a wife. Smile a little)"Bhabhi ka toh pata nahi, tu bole to Nani yad karau tujhe Teri?" He growled at his younger brother who silently made his way out of the room.
(Don't know about a wife, but if you want, should I make you remember the ancestors?)And angry Siddhant is hazardous for health.
"The girl ain't even here yet and ye sab ho raha hai. Pata nahi aaegi toh kya hoga Mera." Sid groaned to himself.
(And all this is happening. I don't know what'll happen to me once she's here)"No. I'm not going to accept this betrothal. I'll rather stay a celibated saint all my life than have my family behave like this. They are already half cracks and this Dutt girl will make them whole crack. Absolutely not." And with this determination in his mind, he slept for half an hour.
Then getting ready, and being satisfied with how he looked, he made his way towards the living room.
Where his whole family was sitting. Chatting and teasing each other as usual.
"Tujhe nahi pata?" Asked Miheer.
(You don't know?)"Nahi nahi nahi. Kitne bar kahu. Ab bata bhi kya secret hai?" Sirat, Siddhant's younger sister asked his cousin, that he heard, as he was making his way down the stairs.
(No no no! How many times must I say! Now tell me quickly what's the secret?)"Arrey...some twenty years back, chachu's one friend was expecting. And then he had a baby girl. But his wife was very disappointed with how monkey-ish the baby looked. So they gave up the baby for adoption." He was talking something so weird, and the whole family was on ears at this now.
"Oh kay...then?" Asked Sirat visibly confused.
"Then chachu took pity on the poor infant and gave shelter to her. After that, he adopted her." He said and Sirat raised her eyebrow. She knew where this was going.
"And finally, he named her Sirat because no matter how monkey-ish she looked at least her nature wa-"
And before he could complete his sentence, he was met with a flying chappal. Sirat ki chappal.
(Sirat's footware)"Sale kutte...kamine. Idhar aa tu. Main batati hu tujhe." As usual, the youngest duo of the family started fighting running here & there while half the family laughed and half were going insane at their stupidity.
(Freaking bitch...you idiot! Come here. I'll show you.)Siddhant just shook his head and made his way towards the car after greeting the elders and taking their blessings.
