Beyond pissed.
That's what LieZl Uytengsu felt as she sat at the rectangular-shaped marbled seat in front of the mini garden located inside the hospital grounds she's confined.
Her inner preoccupation had her blinded by the peaceful and calming surroundings.
I shouldn't be here lazing myself out in the guise of recuperation when I'm needed at work.
Two days ago, she collapsed while in the middle of negotiating a sub-player's contract candidate for premature termination.
As Phoenix Gaming manager, a League of Lemuria professional e-sports team for the Lemurian Champions Korea region, it's her responsibility to take good care of her players while under her responsibility.
The poor chap had been the victim of bullying and those guilty of such acts had the gall to push the blame on his baby.
But not on her watch. If push comes to shove, she won't hesitate to shove back. REAL HARD.
Too bad, the stress from said crisis combined with the juggling of her duties to ALL her players took its toll. Now, she's ordered to take full, uninterrupted rest by her physician as her health deteriorated to huge proportions, declaring her unfit to work.
So here she is, sulking at her helplessness.
"A penny for your thoughts?"
A jovial baritone voice interrupted her dark musings.
The owner of said voice sat beside her, making her already dark mood worse.
"What are you doing here?"
"Checking on you and telling you not to worry too much about us," he answered straightforwardly, as he's always been.
"Visitation hours ended," she lied.
"Says who?"
LieZl could feel the intent stare of her team's ADC Bot-Laner, even though she kept her attention away. And it's causing that all too familiar fluttering of butterflies in her stomach she so hated.
"X, I don't wanna argue with you today. Not in the mood."
The professional e-sports player chuckled.
"Not in the mood, either. So, let's declare it today as day-off."
He faced her and extended his left hand, "Truce?"
She flitted his well-built countenance a glance for a quick second, then gave in and returned his handshake."Truce."
There goes those darned butterflies again. Damn it! His kilowatt smile will not sway me!
"By the way, I bought you something that will lighten your mood."
The Bot-Laner's deft hands rummaged something inside his navy backpack and when he found it, handed it to her.
"Ah!" The recuperating manager's lips twitched, which lifted the haggard pro gamer's tired features.
"How did you find this rare treat?"
"Let's just say I have my old Jedi ways up my sleeves."
Liezl took one miniature bar of Hershey's Organic Special Dark Mildly Sweet chocolate from its packaging, peeled its plastic cover, took a bite, and savored the balanced taste of bitter and sweet blend on her palate. Its dainty sacchariferous zing drowns her woes away, gradually calming her frayed senses.
"Thanks for coming, despite the team's hectic schedule. I know Rogue is turning a blind eye to this."
X smiled. "Nah. I have the captain's blessings for being here. He knows I'm looking after his anae's best friend."
"You mean, your noona's cantankerous best friend?"
"Yeah. That too."
