On the car ride home, my eyes started to get heavy. I couldn't explain why, but today tired me out. So, I leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes. Just for a few seconds, I drifted off to sleep.

The next thing I felt was Rafe lifting me out of the car. I was half awake but kept my eyes closed, just like I used to when my father did the same. It was a moment to savor.
Rafe carried me inside his house, and his strong arms around me, paired with his scent, felt close to heaven. Then, I felt Rafe putting me down on his bed, and it only took me a split second to drift off to sleep again.

The next time I opened my eyes, I thought it would be morning, but it was still dark outside. I turned around, hoping that Rafe would pull me in for a cuddle so I could sleep again, but he wasn't there. The bed was empty.

I sat up and looked around. I was in his bed, but he was nowhere close. Then, I saw him. He stood on the balcony, smoking a cigarette. A glance at my phone told me it was 4 in the morning. I decided to stand up and join him. When I stood up, I realized I was only wearing my panties and one of Rafe's shirts. The thought of Rafe changing me into that made me smile as I walked towards the balcony door.

I opened the door, and Rafe instantly turned his head. He took a final drag of his cigarette and said, "You should be asleep."

"Shouldn't you be too?" I asked him as I closed the door behind me and moved closer to him.

"Couldn't,"he replied, still looking into the dark night. "Too much going on inside of here," he said, pointing to his head.

"Like what?" I tried to get more information out of him.

"Doesn't matter, I didn't want to wake you up, pretty," he said as he laid his arm around me.

"It matters to me," I said, cuddling up to him.

"That's cute," he said without explaining. He then stubbed out his cigarette on the railing and looked at me.

"You are cute,"he then said, and I smiled at him, feeling the butterflies inside of me going crazy.

"And now let's go to bed," he said, and we went inside again. Rafe lifted the blanket, and I crawled underneath it. He also joined me and wrapped his arms around me.

"Ivy,"he then mumbled.

"Yes," I replied.

"Someday, I am going to ruin this, so I want to tell you that right now feels good," he said, pulling me closer.

"It does feel good; let's not think about ruining anything,"I said, trying to convince myself as much as him.

"I like the way you think, Eves,"he began. "But life is not just good, and I am even less.'"
