Dylan walked into a shitty convenience store. He walked in the aisles, finding the one with the fridges. Pulling open the door, he took a chocolate milk and quickly shut it again. Continuing to look around the place, he saw a monkey toy with cymbals attached to its hands.
Turning it over, he saw it was a wind-up toy. Cranking the little knob, he watched as it made an obnoxious sound with the cymbals. Smiling, he put it in the same hand with the chocolate milk. Maybe this would win Kaitlyn over.
Walking to the front, he saw a young man working there, maybe about twenty years old. Dylan placed the two items on the counter, watching as he scanned them.
"That'll be $3.89." He grumbled.
Dylan nodded and patted his pockets, not feeling his wallet (keep in mind he did not own a wallet) anywhere on him.
"Fuck." Dylan whispered, watching as the man's eyebrow raised.
"Do you not have money?" He asked.
"Uhm.. Look," He squinted at the guy's name tag. "Jacob. Can I pay you back later? Or give you this.." Dylan looked into his pocket, finding a cool rock he found. "Rock?"
Jacob looked at him incredulously. "What the fuck? No."
"No to paying back later? Or the rock?" Dylan smirked.
"Both!" He shouted, making a gesture with his hands.
"Ugh, fine." Dylan grabbed the items.
"Put them back." Jacob said, crossing his arms.
"Mhm." He hummed, walking into the two aisles he found them in. When walking to the toy aisle, he pretended to put it back, then placed it in his pocket. He did the same with the beverage aisle.
Sticking his hands into his pocket, he walked out of the store, back onto the sidewalk. He looked to the apartment building in the distance. He could either go there, or explore a bit more. Humming, he walked down the sidewalk until he was out of sight from the convenience store.
Cracking open the chocolate milk, he turned right into an alley. He sat down at the end of it, drinking his chocolate milk and winding up the toy, watching it move. Before he could turn the crank again, he heard footsteps in front of him.
He looked up to see a woman with short blonde hair and an eye patch. A man was standing next to her with brown hair and a hat. The woman crossed her arms. He quickly spotted them as the top two villains.
"Hello?" Dylan asked, pretending to be oblivious.
"What the fuck do you mean 'hello?'" The girl asked.
"Oh, sorry, silly me," He laughed. "I mean, hello?"
"Don't you know us?" She asked.
"Hey man, I'm just trying to drink my chocolate milk." He said.
"I don't care!" The woman shouted.
"Wait, wait, wait. Is it Nesquik?" The boy asked.
"Yeah, man. Want some?" Dylan offered it out to him.
"Yeah!" He reached his hand out before the girl slapped him on his arm. "I mean, no."
"Okay, let's all just cool our jets. What's your name, you two?" Dylan asked.
"I'm Max, she's Laura," She slapped him again, staring at him. "I mean, no, that is not our name. Those are fake names."
"Mhm, sure, okay." Dylan said.
"Ugh, oh my god, you're terrible at this." She looked at Max before looking back at Dylan, pulling out a gun.
Dylan's hands immediately went up. "Woah there, buddy. Let's calm down a bit, yeah?"
"Shut the fuck up before I shoot."
"Yup."
Dylan looked at the two of them. "Alright, what do you want from me? My chocolate milk? 'Cause you're not getting it."
"We want.." Laura looked to Max.
"Uhh, we want your chocolate milk."
"Max!"
"You're not getting it! Maybe Max can have it, though. He's cool." He shouted.
Before either of them could answer, the three of them saw two heroes jumping off from the rooftop to the dirty floor of the alley.
"Stop!" The boy shouted.
Dylan's hands were still up against the wall as he saw the interaction. Laura now pointed the gun towards the male hero. Said man did some cool trick or something (Dylan wasn't really watching, only upset that his drinking chocolate milk time got interrupted) and took the gun out of her hands, putting them behind her back.
The other hero, a female, did the same with Max. After that, he heard another pair of footsteps and looked up to see another hero jumping off the rooftop.
"Sorry I'm late." He said, an Australian accent apparent.
"Whatever. Just take these two with A and I'll help him." The boy nodded toward Dylan and he watched as the boy with the accent took Laura.
The girl and the dude with the accent walked off somewhere and the other boy lent a hand out to Dylan.
"Ryan. What's your name?" Ryan helped pull Dylan to his feet and he brushed off any dirt that was on his pants.
"Dylan," He said, leaning over to grab his half drank chocolate milk and the monkey toy. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be."
"Oh, are you sure? Do you want to visit the hero headquarters?" Ryan asked him.
Dylan sighed. He really, really did. Especially since he was a huge fangirl of superhero Emma. But, he did have to make things right with Kaitlyn and see if Elizabeth was still there or if she really kicked her out. She probably didn't have the guts to. Ah, fuck it. Who cares?
"Okay, I'll visit for a bit." Dylan said, and he congratulated himself in his mind that he had gone this far without anyone finding out he was a vigilante.
"Perfect! Come, follow me." Ryan started walking and Dylan had no chance but to be his shadow.
He watched as the apartment building in the distance slowly became smaller and smaller until he couldn't see it. He sighed as he continued walking behind Ryan.
