At that moment, fortunately(?), something happened to divert their attention.
Duke Leif's complexion paled and he fell to his knees!
"Your Excellency!"
Raymond hurriedly checked the Duke's condition.
He had exhausted himself.
He hadn't fully recovered, and yet he pushed himself too hard.
He mustn't move and should absolutely rest.
"It's fine... More than that, I have something to tell you..."
Anticipating that the Duke Leif might say something about learning swordsmanship, Raymond interrupted him.
"Don't even speak. You must be absolutely steady and keep your mouth shut.''
"...Fine."
"According to medical knowledge, speaking in your current condition, Your Excellency, can seriously worsen your health. So, you must be quiet."
"..."
"Close your eyes, too. Just sleep soundly."
'Just sleep soundly, and don't talk nonsense!'
Fortunately, Duke Leif did as he was told.
He closed his eyes for a moment and then passed out.
Raymond shook his head and said to the people.
"We've lost a lot of time, so let's go open the gates."
It was time to take the castle.
***
Once Raymond and his men had opened the gates, the next few days were uneventful.
A detachment of stars and stripes hiding near the north gate entered the castle, and the garrison, who were otherwise less willing to fight, raised the white flag.
The captain of the garrison, a pro-Berard, surrendered, and they were able to capture the Drotonian capital with hardly a drop of blood spilled.

And with that, Raymond received another reward.
It came from the young king himself.
"This is all thanks to you, Baron Penin."
The young king looked at his reclaimed throne and blushed.
"To be able to return to this throne."
He wasn't just back, though; before, he'd merely sat on the throne as Berard's puppet.
