𝓣he rest of the day was spent in my room. I didn't have the strength to deal with the complexity of emotions that Aries had forced me to acknowledge and sadly, I knew this was something I would have to bring up with Eros.

It seemed no matter what, things couldn't just stay easy between us and I started to wonder if they would ever be.

When dinner time came, I didn't bother getting dressed up much. There was a lot I wanted to talk about with Eros and I didn't want any distractions, but when I reached the dining room, no one was around.

Eros was absent and not surprisingly Aries was too.

The silence that enveloped the Blackwell home was almost unsettling today.

Just as I contemplated leaving the dining area, a familiar face emerged from the kitchen.

"Oh, Miss." Hazel came from the kitchen door. "Will you be having dinner on your own tonight?"

With a small shake of my head, I declined. My appetite was suppressed by the swirling thoughts within my mind and the anticipation tugging at my heart. "Actually, I'm not very hungry. Do you know if Eros is home?"

"Yes, he should be in his office." Hazel said warmly.

I mentally scoured each room, trying to remember where his office was.

"It's on the second floor," Hazel said, "but in the south wing."

"Thank you, Hazel." Thankful for the information, I left the room and ascended towards the second floor.

Even the place seemed dim tonight, covered in shadows. I hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether I should switch the lights that lined the corridor of the second floor, but I liked the moonlight that spilled through the windows, its silver light reminded me of the Blackwell brothers' eyes.

So I much preferred the soft glow of the moon to guide me and as I did my mind once more swirled with questions. Eros was home. Then why had he skipped dinner with me like he promised? Was he avoiding our conversation?

A knot of anticipation formed in my stomach as I reached the second floor and looked down the corridor of the south wing, where Eros's office resided. My fingers twitched nervously as I approached the only room I saw a faint yellow light shining from underneath the doorway.

That had to be Eros's office.

I shuffled quietly towards it, yet before my knuckles could make contact with the wood, I froze.

From behind the door, a cacophony of angry voices reached my ears. The familiar tone of Eros and Aries intertwined, their words layered— intense and urgent. It became apparent that they were in the middle of a heated conversation.

Intrigued and unsure of whether I should interrupt or not, I hesitated, deciding instead to eavesdrop for a moment, letting my curiosity get the better of me. With a mixture of trepidation and guilt, I leaned closer to the door.

"Do you want what happened to Scarlette to happen to her?" Aries shouted.

"Don't you dare bring Scarlette up!" Eros growled, his tone a mixture of hurt and rage.

Whoever the woman Aries mentioned was, must mean a lot to Eros.

"Then what do you intend to do, hmm?" Aries seethed. "Our lead keeps moving and hunting her down will not be easy with the protection she has."

Hunting her?

"We'll figure it out." Eros said.

"By then it might be too late. Victor is catching up. He's not patient, he's bound to strike any day."
