Chapter 1

"This is a joke right?" Meredith exclaimed, completely confused by Dr. Bailey's statement.

"No. Grey this is serious alright? Andrew DeLuca is one of the best General Surgeons on the East Coast. It would be an honor for him to accept a Co-Chief position here at Grey-Sloan. So we want to make him feel welcome okay?" Bailey demanded softly.

BEEP BEEP

"I have to go," Meredith said while looking at her pager, and then standing up.

"Meredith, please?" Bailey pleaded as she rose from her office chair.

"I'm still upset about this, but I will try my best to be civil for the sake of this hospital." Meredith calmly said.

"Thank you."

"I have to go now," Meredith said while grabbing her coat and heading for the door.

"I see you later Bailey," Meredith said while exiting through the office door.

Bailey releases a sigh of relief she didn't know she was holding in.

This was going to be a long year.

"Hey Mer," Alex said coming up from behind her.

"Jeez, Alex don't scare me like that," Meredith said putting down a patient's chart.

"I hear that there's going to be a new surgeon?" Alex asked.

"Unfortunately, I can't believe Dr. Bailey just sprung this on me. I've been doing perfectly fine on my own as chief." Meredith said.

"I'm sure this will turn out fine Mer, Don't worry okay?" Alex reassured her.

"Thanks," Meredith said with a smile.

"I have to go now, but I see you for drinks tonight with Jo?"

"Definitely. I'm going to need more than 4." Meredith jokingly said. Alex laughs.

"I see you later." Alex pats Meredith's shoulder as he walks away.

Drinks were needed later she thought to herself.

A few hours later...

"Thanks for watching them on short notice," Meredith said while collecting her phone and bag.

"Don't worry. Me and Link need the practice." Amelia said while rubbing her belly excitedly.

"I still can't believe your pregnant," Meredith said.

"I know right, I'm still shocked." Amelia jokingly said.

"Don't worry Amelia, you're going to be a great mom," Meredith said smiling at her sister.

"Thanks, Meredith that means a lot. Now go out and have fun."

"Mommy will see you later okay?" Meredith said looking at her 3 kids who were busy watching TV.

"Bye Mommy have fun," Zola said not looking away from the TV.

Meredith quickly exited through the front door.

"Okay, who wants to make cookies?" Amelia said.

The kids erupt in excited cheers.

"I'm going to need another drink." Meredith drunkenly said to the bartender who happily obliged.

"Mer, that was your 3rd drink. Maybe take it easy?" Alex said with concern in his voice.

"No. Alex, I need these drinks okay? Tomorrow I'm going to have to share my job with a stranger, I'm allowed to get drunk. Besides I'm not drunk just tipsy." Meredith said while downing her 4th drink. She winces from the burn the drink causes.

"Okay, but don't complain when your way too hangover tomorrow," Alex said, then turned to talk to Jo.

"Hello." A man said while taking a seat next to Meredith

"Hi." Meredith seductively said.

"I just wanted to tell you that you look beautiful."

"Thanks. Want a drink?" She asked.

"Why not." He said.

"So, what's your name?" Meredith asked while playing with her drink.

"Nathan, how about you?"

"Meredith." She said with a smile.

"Well it's nice to meet you," He said.

"You too."

It was 2 a.m. and Meredith was naked next to a stranger. The sex was great, but she had only met him a couple of hours earlier and knew nothing about him.

She quickly got up and put on her clothes. Meredith quietly exited this stranger's house and got into her car. She drove straight home. Meredith quietly opened the door and walked in.

The lamp in the living room comes on and Amelia looks at Meredith with a smirk.

"What are you smirking at?" Meredith questioned.

"The good old walk of shame. Been there." Amelia said.

"It was nothing," Meredith said.

"Well, I know a walk of shame when I see one, by the way, the kids are asleep. Goodnight Mer." Amelia said.

Meredith scoffs and heads upstairs to sleep this wild day off.
