Shuu arrived at Izumi's home. Or what was left of it at least. He knocked on the door. No one responded. Again he knocked louder. No one responded.

"Hello?" Shuu shouted.

No one responded.

Shuu tried to open the doorknob, and it opened with a click. The door slowly creaked open, revealing the dark, empty house that was devoid of all of Shuu's memories with Izumi. He couldn't recognize the house.

Hesitantly, Shuu stepped in. "Hello?" Shuu's voice echoed in the house.

No one responded.

Shuu could've just dropped Izumi's science notes and left, but he decided to go up to Izumi's room, up the creaking stairs of the home.

The 2nd floor was lit by the sunlight, shining on Izumi's door. Shuu looked down at the doorknob for a while, deciding if he wanted to burden himself with more memories of Izumi, and if Izumi would've allowed him in his room.

The boy took a deep inhale, and creaked the door open. He peaked around before entering. The floor was covered with unwashed shirts, pages, weights, a bat, and a black notebook labeled Journal.

Shuu put Izumi's science notes on the desk, and took the black notebook. He quickly flipped through the book, which was filled with inconsistent dates and incoherent thoughts. It was Izumi's diary.

Shuu flipped to a random page and started reading: ...I feel chained. I thought I had gained freedom when I strengthened myself, and stopped caring about studies. It felt much better. But Dad got angry when he saw the report card. He beat me up. Told me I was a failure. Mom just watched and scolded me. Now my time with Shikimori has been cut. I don't want to think about my future. I don't care. What happens, happens right? It doesn't matter. Nothing does. So who cares? I don't want to be in this house anymore. I want to leave.

Shuu put down the notebook. "...My gut is always wrong," Shuu thought.

He loved Izumi's parents. He never knew they were like that.

Shuu felt a bitter bile went up his throat. "I wasn't there for you," he whispered. "I didn't know. I'm sorry."

Shuu put the notebook back as it was, and left.

The empty home would remain empty after that. Izumi's parents had left somewhere no one knew. Far away from the empty house.
