Shivank squeezed her hand, his grip firm yet gentle. "Kya bola unhone, Vaani? Tum batao."
Her lips quivered as she hesitated, her throat tightening around the words. "Unhone Rekha Kaki se kaha ki..." Her voice cracked, and then, as if the weight of it all was too much, she broke down. Tears streamed down her face, her body trembling in his hold.
The moment hung between them, thick with unspoken pain.
Shivank could feel the warmth of her embrace, but also the walls she was struggling to keep up. Vaani had always worn her vulnerability like a veil—one she never wanted anyone to see. But here, in his arms, she couldn't help but break. The words Kanta Kaki had spoken echoed in her mind, sharp and unforgiving.
"Dekh Rekha, seedhi si baat hai. Bin maa ki betiyan acchi nahi hoti hain. Abhi Shivank kamane laga toh Shivank, Shivank kar rahi hai...hume kya pata kya chahti hai?"
Each syllable felt like a dagger to her heart. The judgment, the accusations—they clawed at her, making her want to shrink into herself, to disappear.
Shivank tightened his arms around her, his jaw clenching as fury surged through him. How dare she? How dare she belittle her like this? Didn't they see her for who she truly was?
"Shhh, Vaani, shant ho ja," he murmured, pressing her closer, his hand running through her hair in slow, soothing strokes. He wished he could take her pain, erase every cruel word ever thrown at her.
