Kate had awoken to the sound of her brother leaving. She said nothing as she listened to him leave their hollow, his pawsteps quiet as he tried not to disturb her sleep. His pawsteps faded and Kate decided to get up but paused as the scent of Ami filled her nose. "Why hello sleepy head." Ami said her gold colored eyes glowing. "What do you want?" Kate asked ignoring the feelings she got if she stared to long into those golden eyes.
Ami took a step back startled by Kate's hostility. "Well I wanted to see if you wanted to hunt with me since your brother is clearly doing his own thing." She said and Kate was taken aback. "Sure." Kate said in a monotone voice not lowering her guard at this stranger of a friend.
...
The woods were filled with life as she and Ami stalked through the undergrowth, two rabbits were just up ahead, both her and Ami crouched on instinct, they looked at each other for a moment before silently agreeing on moving forward.
They stalked onward till they were foot away and they sprung their attack, Kate jumped on one but scared the other one to where Ami was waiting. Kate looked up to see Ami carrying her kill in her jaws. She nodded her head, beckoning for Kate to follow. Kate picked up her prey and followed Ami who took a trail that Kate did not recognize.
A few moments passed until they had reached their destination. Ami disappeared behind some fern but Kate followed suit and stood in awe at the scene around her. A waterfall, not known to her, fell to the right creating pool of water that flowed out to a river. Near the pool though were flowers of many colors, blues, purples, pinks, reds, and so on. "It's pretty isn't it?" Ami asked and Kate nodded still stunned by the sight. "We should eat and then we can talk." Ami said, snapping Kate out of her stupor. Kate grabbed her rabbit and began to dig in, Ami watched for just a minute before digging into her rabbit.
A few minutes had passed and the two vixens were on their way again, Ami taking the lead before pausing to look at Kate who had stopped walking. "Ami. Why are you here?" Kate asked looking into Ami's golden eyes. "I knew you'd ask that." Ami sighed and sat down. "I won't lie, I came here looking for you but I'm also here to thank Elder Nora and the pack that saved me." She said and Kate looked on curiously. Ami sighed and began her story.
...
Ami had been traveling through unfamiliar territory for days now. She was in a dense spruce forest trying her best to stay undetected from any would be predators. It was forests like these that a being like her was hunted by the shadows of a distant world.
She had been careful and yet she knew she was being watched, she had seen their white pupilless eyes watching her, their claws twitching with the need to kill. "Come on Ami, just a little further and they'll lose interest." Ami spoke to herself trying to calm her heartbeat as the shadows weaved in and out of sight. "Their just trying to scare you, they want you to run." She whispered to herself once more as she slowly crept beneath a fallen tree. It had only been a mere minute when something snapped behind her, she didn't turn around to look and instead kept going forward until she stood on the otherside of the log, horrified as she gazed upon a shadow. It's skin was void of any color, blackened like burnt earth, it's eyes were blank and void of life. Ami took a step back as the shadow grinned, revealing rows upon rows of sharp, crooked teeth.
Ami stared in horror as the shadow raised its right arm, it's claws shining in what little sunlight there was, and in a blink of an eye it brought it down striking Ami and sending her crashing into a thicket of bushes.
Ami breathed shakily as she got up from where the bushes, feeling the burn of the claw marks that now marked her skin. She had but a few precious moments before the shadow screeched, sending shivers down Ami's spine. Ami spent little time standing around and bolted from the soft know the hunt had began and that she was the prey.
...
Three nights had passed as Ami was hunted down by the shadows. The wound in her side wasn't healing properly and infection was sure to set in if she didn't escape and yet she didn't have the strength to go on as she dry heaved stomach bile onto the forest floor. "Damn those cursed creatures. And damn me if I die here." Ami said to herself as she shakily got to her feet and dragged herself onward through the darkness, listening as one of the shadows screeched. "Damn it." Ami said as she moved just a bit faster, knowing that the hunt was drawing to an end. They were growing bored and they had grown hungry while they chased her.
As the night drew on, the shadow grew nearer and nearer, sensing the growing weakness in Ami as her steps faltered and her vision blurred in and out. "Keep moving, you've gotta keep moving Ami if you want to see her again. If you want to ask her that question that has been burning inside you for far to long. Just one more step, just... one... more... step..." Ami said as she collapsed, everything going black as the sound of pawsteps surrounded her.
..."I woke up a few days later in a camp filled with wolves and a few other shifters. I was scared but couldn't move, Elder Nora helped me through the worst of it and when I was mostly healed I took off. I never said thankyou so when I caught ahold of their scent here I thought I would at least tell them thankyou. Without them I would have been a goner." Ami finished and Kate looked at Ami's side noticing the faint scars that she hadn't noticed before.
