The battle with Tot-Musica was scary for most of the Marines. You were working directly under Vice Admiral Momonga as a sniper; your goal was to shoot down Uta and take out Tot-Musica.
You readied your rifle as you positioned yourself in a tree; your sights were on the girl, but you never shot. You were hesitating and that would be what got you killed. You shook your head and jumped out of the tree, putting your rifle on your shoulder and walking away.
You hid until Tot-Musica was brought down and Uta was with her family. The girl had lifted her curse from all of the civilians and pirates, everyone would be waking up soon. Vice admiral Momonga knew this and yet he still wanted her dead.
"Lieutenant L/N. Shoot her down."
You simply stared at the Vice Admiral with your eyes void of emotion.
"Nah. I don't think I will."
Momonga began to yell, earning the looks of everyone in the area, including the pirates.
"Lieutenant if you don't shoot her down this instant, you will regret it."
You shifted the rifle on your back and continued to stare at Momonga. He glared at you as he grabbed a rifle from a nearby marine, pointing the barrel directly between your eyes. You never said a word, his threatening gaze seemingly burning holes into your skin.
"Lieutenant you might want to pick up that rifle and shoot down that monster."
You shook your head, Momonga's face twisting into a mixture of anger and frustration. His finger hovered over the trigger and then he squeezed it. Red filled your vision as well as white lights, he had shot a bullet between your eyes. He had killed his star sniper over a damn girl.
Your body flopped to the ground lifelessly as your comrades stared at it. A mixture of pain and horror etched across their features. It was at that time you realized how fucked up the marines were; maybe you should have picked a different life. Perhaps a pirate.
The bright lights faded as your vision was cleared. White pillars surrounded you and your feet felt like clouds. You were floating and your heart felt light. Glancing around you didn't see a soul, that is until you saw her.
Red and white hair filled your gaze as you saw the popstar standing alone. She was eyeing everything curiously and you could feel the pain surrounding her. Your back still felt slightly heavy and that's when you realized, the rifle. You shrugged it off your shoulder and let it fall to the ground as you walked towards the girl.
She seemed spooked when you walked up beside her; it might have been the fact that you were wearing a Navy uniform. She almost seemed relieved though, maybe it was because she wasn't alone. You almost always felt alone, but now... now it was different.
You reached out your hand and waited for her to take it. She hesitated just as you did when holding your gun, but then she took it. Her warm hands enlacing with yours and it seemed to bring delight to your heart. Love never came easy to you; you were simply an orphan girl that Momonga found. Maybe that's why he was able to kill you so easily, he knew you had no one to go home to.
Not a soul to care if you died, or were murdered. It still hurt that your savior ended up being the reason of your death. The man you trusted was the one that led to your downfall, the man you looked up to as a daughter would to her father. Fuck you Momonga. You thought.
Uta dragged you out of your thoughts as she spoke in a soft, heartbroken voice.
"What do we do now?"
You shrugged your shoulders. You honestly had no clue, you had never experienced death, obviously.
Then like a light in the dark a door appeared, a stairway appearing with it. You felt warm again, that was the way. You firmly held Uta's hand, a newfound courage in your heart.
"Come on, we shouldn't stand around and waste our afterlife."
Uta nodded as you pulled her up the stairs. The feeling of warmth spreading throughout you once again.
You reached the gates and pushed them open. It was finally time, the ending of one chapter and the beginning of the next.
Heaven is always accepting, unlike the marines. You had a new life to live and you would help Uta through it. Maybe as a couple, who knew.
You just hoped she would love you back.
