About You and The Rain

* * *

The raindrops are soaking me. They keep the lingering silence company.

.

Rain is often considered to hold profound meanings and is frequently seen as a magical moment in human life. When she was a child, Liora was told by her parents that during the rain, we can pray to God. For rain embodies grace. Without rain, human life will never proceed flawlessly.

On that day, the rain pours heavily onto the spacious schoolyard. Other students appear disappointed because they are having difficulty going home and do not want to return in a wet condition. But unlike them, Liora dares to take a step. While people are searching for shelter, Liora, on the other hand, intentionally lets her body get wet.

She quickly closes her eyes. Just like when Liora was little, she prays to God now. She questions the miracles that God will bestow through the rain.

Liora merely wants to prove that this is true. The words of her parents are indeed correct. That what she wants can come true now.

I want a friend. Just that.

Because all along, she has been alone. She has no friends at all.

When I Remember You. And all those sweet moments.

.

Liora opens her eyes quickly. She needs to go home from school now. Her clothes are drenched. Her mother might scold her if she finds out Liora did this intentionally.

She continues running through the rain towards the bus stop. She is not the kind of person who enjoys carrying an umbrella. She is not the type who always has things ready in her bag. So, it ends up like this—Liora has to accept her thoroughly soaked body.

Liora increases her running pace. Although the rainwater could cause her to slip, she appears uncaring about it.

The bus stop is already in sight. Luckily, the school bus stop is not busy. At least Liora can wait for the bus without feeling crowded. However, the rain seems to persist; instead, it intensifies even more.

Liora widens her steps. But unknowingly, she steps on a pebble in front of her, the sensation of nearly falling and meeting the hard pavement surging through her. Liora is prepared for the consequence of having a body full of bruises. She failed to shield her body, which could have been saved.

Liora shuts her eyes tightly in fear. Yet, she feels no pain. Upon her eyes fluttering open, she recognizes her well-being and detects a sense of someone holding her back.

What? Someone?

Liora straightens her body, surprised, and looks to the side. She spots a guy in the same school uniform as hers, gripping her bag tightly. The guy is the one who saved Liora.

Her eyes widen, almost comically, as the unfamiliar guy standing before her breaks into laughter. His body is just as soaked as hers. But in the rain, he manages to laugh.

Infectious bursts of laughter. Laughter that effortlessly puts Liora at ease. With the unfamiliar guy in front of her.

That day. That sweet moment. Liora will remember them forever.
