~This chapter is more of a set up for what's to come, just wanted to say that 👍 ~ and it's a bit long
~Also, a little ⚠️ warning ⚠️, this story, and this chapter, has cursing, and mentions and descriptions of drugs, alcohol, abuse, and someone chasing you around with a knife, so, if any of that makes you uncomfortable, you might not want to read this~
I don't want to bring back any bad memories for anyone, so I'll put red circles 🔴 when something that might upset someone comes up

You tirdly sighed and taped you finger on your wooden desk as you watched the clock on the wall, counting up to three everytime it ticked. The day was going rather slow, and it seemed that the last class, math, was going the slowest. The teacher in the front of the room was helping students who didn't get their math work done by doing the math questions on the white board, and the other students who were done were doing other things. Things like doing work from other classes, reading, sleeping, looking on their phone, or doing what you were doing: watching the clock in anticipation for school to end.
Behind you was your friend Lorilei Adams, who had fair skin and bleached hair with dark roots; she was asleep with her face on the table, snoring quietly with drool coming from her mouth. On your left was your friend Brian Jenkins, with neat blonde hair and peach skin. He was scribbling down the problems on the white board quickly, looking up and down trying to get every piece of information. Then, on your right, there was your third and final friend: Veronica Pesci-White. She had dark olive skin with deep brown eyes with dark circles under them, and long and messy black hair in her face. Her elbow was on the desk and her cheek was on her hand, and she was trying desperately to stay awake.
You kept looking at the clock, tapping your finger and counting up to three. You didn't really have to get things done right now. You were already caught up with all your work for the day, only having a few assignments left, but you could easily do them at home. You did have a book you were reading for an essay - Dracula by Brahm Stoker - but the essay wasn't due until late October, and it was currently early September.
Your eyelids fell heavy and you kept slipping in and out of sleep, like Veronica, but pinched yourself harshly when you felt like sleeping. Though you were waiting for school to end and for it to be the weekend soon, that wasn't the only thing in your mind; another thing was: running away.
Running away from home and your hometown was something you had in mind since you were ten. Life just didn't seem to be a lady to you, coming after you everytime she got. One day you would make walking home and get splashed by a puddle that a car drove on, and another all your homework would be lost and you would have to make all that work up by doing extra. Then you might have been chased by a group of angry, rabid raccoons.
It was strange.
*BRIIIIINNNNGGG*
The sound of the school bell brought you out of your thoughts and students began to pack up and get up from their seats, and you were about sling you backpack around your shoulder when the teacher stopped all of you from leaving.
"The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do." He said sternly, "Everyone, sit back down. We have one more question to solve."
The room was filled with annoyed groans and quiet swears as students sat back down. Some still had their backpacks on and others angrily sat it back down. You were more awake now, but now you were annoyed.
"This is bullshit." you heard Lorilei say to herself.
When you looked at Veronica, she was still insanely tired and dozing off, so you let her rest. It was clear she was having troubles falling asleep at night. Then you looked at Brian; he was beginning to look a bit worried and started to sweat. He hated being late from school, and his parents didn't either.
