The bright light shone down on my face with the empty figures standing in the shadow, and dozens of seats set about. I stared at the crowd to see a familiar silhouette, their short bob cut-- even with no words, I knew they were cheering for me. Standing across from me, behind a wooden stand in a suit and tie: My opponent, who lies as one of the more prominent in his side of the fight.
"Ms. Nora Quar..." he started to speak, "I'd say it is safe to mention how the Bernuzania's are a threat to our society as a whole. That should be a good starting point in our debate, should it not be, Ms. Nora?"
The spectators in the crowd talked amongst themselves as he said his first few words. I see there are many people I have to convince today. Let's give it everything we've got!
"Why, yes, you can say that the Bernuzania's are a threat to our society as a whole in many senses where they had proved that they could be a threat. When it is clear by how fast we've progressed with their magic. Say, Mr. Lance. Do you know of someone who had a severely ill relative of sorts? Then I'm sure you know that they would've been cured promptly. Ah! That's right, with their magic we were able to cure many illnesses that were severely damaging the human race. I'm sure you heard of the many graves in recent years and how many of those who died-- well, have been resurrected."
"Ms. Nora. We cannot fathom the power that they hold, with how much power some of the past people have: They have dictated and left scars in our history. Do you believe that your magic people are any different from our history of dictators? They will showcase their power and pretend to be this safe entity before they try to overrule us!"
"They are--"
"--Fucking human, too! Why don't they understand that!" I shouted, kicking a nearby wall. Standing outside the building, the citizens stare at me releasing a portion of my rage. While raging, another pair of hands pull me back abruptly. Setting me upright, I stare at Elizabeth who is fuming with anger.
"Stop it, Nora! We can discuss this at home!" I heard Elizabeth call out to me. Letting myself cool upon the wall.
Soon I repositioned myself, I looked back at Elizabeth who wore this black top and skirt with black tights. Her short blond bob cut hairstyle stood out from the crowd around us. Letting out a breath of air I nodded and we proceeded to head back home. Peering at my phone here and there, I spotted a tweet from some users speaking about Taylor Swift's upcoming concert. Reading into it more it had information about what the topic was; the Bernuzanias, and when it was occurring.
"Oh, shit!" I exclaimed. My phone at my side, swaying side to side, I had read that I am unable to purchase any tickets anymore. It was past due and I had forgotten all about it.
"What is it?" Izzy inquired.
I showed her my phone, putting it away soon after. Izzy took a moment to process a certain memory of hers. She shrugged and ignored what I had just shown her.
On our way home, we would occasionally pass by flyers for tutors for learning magic. Saying how it would be easier if they would pick them than any other Mage.
"Sorry, you couldn't do much for the crowd, sis. Maybe I should've been the one to do this one," Elizabeth said, rubbing her forehead. Mr. Lance was strong with his points and the people were mostly biased on which side to take.
I shook my head in response. "No! I did it and now it's over, Izzy. It doesn't matter now. I'll try again next time." We carried on forth to home, whilst on the way, we saw a group of kids ganging up on a young boy.
Izzy and I immediately rushed over to stop the fighting. Izzy chanted a spell before a loud glass-shattering sound sprung out of nowhere near the kids. That sudden shatter of glass startled the kids and they fled before we reached the scene. I kneeled to help the kid up-- Izzy in the background began healing the kid.
