Lexa sat back on the couch in their room, enjoying the sounds of Bambi moving around the room and the smell of the herbs used for their tea that was being boiled over some hot coals. She could hear it bubbling and knew that the tea was going to be ready soon. She could even smell some sweets that Bambi had gotten from the cook, the sweet roll that Bambi had become obsessed with and had most likely taken a bite before putting the tea together.
She was enjoying the feeling of not feeling the pressure of the bandages wrapped over her eyes after so long and the feel of the plush couch under her still slightly sore body. The force of the blast and impact with the ground had done a number on it, but nothing compared to the pain in her wife's voice when she woke up.
"Maybe it's the bandages that are holding her vision back from healing." She heard Bambi mumble to herself as she was putting things away behind her to get ready for tea. "I should probably let them breathe. Maybe... Maybe I could ask him if..."
Lexa opened her eyes subconsciously and realized she could see light, but everything looked too blurry to tell anything. She obviously knew she was in her room, but she could not tell what was on the small table in front of her if Bambi hadn't told her that she was putting some eye drop medicine for after. She was so excited to finally see something and couldn't keep it to herself. "I can see light."
Bambi stopped what she was doing to turn to Lexa. "What did you say?"
Lexa couldn't stop smiling as she repeated herself. "I can see light."
Bambi quickly ran over and cupped Lexa's face gently, looking into her eyes. "You can? Can you see anything else or only light?" She held up two fingers in front of Lexa's face. "How many fingers am I holding up right now?"
"As much as I would love to see your lovely hands, Ai Skaifaya, I can't." She reached forward and felt she had grabbed Bambi's wrist. She moved her hand up until she held her hand and pulled it towards her to place a kiss on it.
Bambi removed her hand to press her a kiss onto Lexa's lips. "Well, I have to thank Healer Lockard for all of his medicine."
"You helped too, maybe even more than he has."
"Oh?" Bambi laughed, caressing Lexa's cheeks and rubbing her thumbs against her skin. "You mean my kisses, right?" She knew she was correct when Lexa grinned.
"They are the best medicine."
Bambi shook her head and gave Lexa another kiss. "While I'm happy to hear your eyes are getting better, I don't think we should strain them so much. I would rather be extra careful just in case."
"Of course." Lexa closed her eyes and pressed her nose into Bambi's hair. "We should leave for the throne room."
Now, Lexa did feel bad for lying to Bambi, but she was too excited to finally see something.
All day, she would open her eyes when she knew that Bambi was looking the other way or when she was distracted by reading reports out loud to her. She would quickly shut them when Bambi would stop talking to look at her for her answer.
