Ability

—🍃—

After an agonising week had passed, Yuki finally came to terms with the fact that this indeed was her reality now, that fate didn't want her to rest even after the hell she went through. Instead, fate wanted her to go through something worse, something more dangerous.

If her understanding is correct, after an year, The Dragon's Head Conflict would take place. It was a battle of underground organisations, but several innocents were also killed. That's the main reason she wanted to know what her ability was. Though being an ability user in this world came with many disadvantages, she would at least be able to defend herself in dangerous situations. Yokohama was a battlefield, and only the strong would survive.

At first, Yuki had thought that it would be best to stay away from all the characters of this world. Don't get her wrong, she loved them. In her past life, she had thoroughly enjoyed all the characters and their dynamics. However, she never failed to acknowledge just how dangerous each and every one of them were, a certain few more than most of course.

But her thoughts of staying away didn't last long. She needed protection.

She had also thought of saving everyone, but that was a stupid thing to wish for. The world of Bungou Stray Dogs was vast. Playing with the storyline would mean playing with the equilibrium of this world. She wouldn't want to risk it.

She was like an anomaly. She wasn't supposed to be here. The real Yuki Amane was. What could have happened for them to switch places? There were so many unanswered questions and they made her head hurt. She had accepted that she was Yuki Amane now, but that didn't mean she wasn't confused anymore.

"Here's your tea, Amane-chan." The croaky voice of the old woman snapped Yuki out of her thoughts. Every evening, she would drink tea with her caretaker. It was a routine of sorts.

They drank the tea in silence. Asae didn't seem to mind, she looked as if she was at peace. But Yuki was far from it. Her mind was a storm.

"Asae-san, do you have the tiniest idea about what my ability is?" The question was out of the blue, catching the older woman by surprise.

"I- no, I really don't," she said as she cleared her throat. "It would be best if you don't ask, Amane-chan. Your parents said it was a good thing."

Yuki sighed, knowing that asking her again would be hopeless. This woman was oddly loyal to her parents. It was frustrating, but what could she do? She was nothing but a powerless child right now. However, backing down would be useless.

Think Yuki, think! What could my ability be? What were theses abilities...

That's it! Yuki's heart started thumping loudly, so loud she thought even Asae could hear it.

The abilities... all the characters in Bungou Stray Dogs were writers and their abilities were their most famous work. So if her logic is correct, every writer in her world must be some kind of ability user in this world, no matter how small or big their influence.

Yuki had written random stories. She wasn't a writer, no. She was far from it. However, she remembered the one time her mind had been hazy from anger and sadness, she had written a random book just to vent her feelings out.

"Asae-san, don't come inside for some time," it was more of a demand than a request. Asae didn't respond but Yuki was sure she would comply.

She took a deep breath, relaxing her body. If her family knew about her having an ability, she must've used her powers before. She continued to take deep breaths, her anxiousness increasing. What if she was a violent ability? What if she lost control? What if it was a totally useless ability? She tried not to overthink, but that seemed impossible.

She closed her eyes and recalled the name of her book—

Tale of Fury ( 怒りの物語  - Ikari no monogatari )

It was all too sudden. She was suddenly surrounded by a dark green cloud. Her body felt extremely heavy at one moment, and then it was lighter than air. It made her feel nauseous, her eyes rolling to the back of her head. An overwhelming feeling of anger, guilt and sadness overtook her heart and her mind, her entire body becoming cold.

She felt herself levitate. At first she thought she was imagining it, but she soon realised that her feet was really not on the floor anymore. Soon, soft wind started to blow, making her already cold body tremble.

She clenched her fists and the wind stopped. She released them and there it was again, the soft breeze. This was her ability... to control the wind.

However, her heart felt unbearably heavy with emotions. She felt like crying, not because she was sad but because she was angry. Ignoring her emotions, she raised her hands and made a flowing gesture. The wind followed her every move. She increased the intensity of her movements and noticed how it affected the speed and force of the wind.

She closed her eyes, halting her actions and took deep breaths. Her feet touched the ground again, her body becoming warmer. She looked around and saw the mess that she had made. Everything in the room was a mess, showpieces broken on the ground, curtains astray and the paintings on the wall now adored the floor. She didn't know how to react to this situation.

She felt relieved now that she knew what her ability was, and that it could be used for combat. However, she needed to gain better control over it which would be quite difficult with Asae at home. Right... her main worry should be about the mess she had made. Asae definitely won't be happy after looking at all this.

And she wasn't. It would be safe to say that Yuki got a good scolding that day.
