Rain

🍃

Yuki lived in an extravagant traditional Japanese house. It sat in between a huge garden, and when the flowers blossomed, the aroma of the house was like heaven on earth. The tress and plants glimmered in the basking sunlight. And yet, Yuki could feel the storm coming. Wind had become a dear friend of hers, and with the wind travelled stories. However, there were rarely any merry tales told.

Along with the rain came the stories of the sky, the clouds and the sea. That was a part of her ability, Yuki realised. She could feel the storms rise, she could feel the hurricane dance. That's when she realised that she could do it herself. She could bring about a disaster if she so wished. But she was not so strong yet.

As Yuki sat quietly in her garden, enjoying the light breeze, she could hear it laugh. It giggled like a child, happy to be heard. It told her that rain was coming, a tiny drizzle that would refresh Yokohama, make it anew. Yuki smiled and thanked the wind.

Her ability was truly peculiar and as time passed by, she learnt more and more about it. She couldn't control what she wanted to hear, nor could she demand any answers. The wind told her what it wished to tell her. But the way she learnt about this was in the worst way possible.

......

A few months prior, even before the Dragon's Head Conflict, Yuki was in her room. Her room was as extravagant as her house. It was huge with a queen sized bed in the very centre. A mahogany desk sat at the other end, right beside the balcony door. There was an armchair in one corner and a very old, Italian lamp stood mightily beside it. The walls of the room had wooden finishing and lines of bookshelf lined across the room. At first, it was adorned my many showpieces according to the real Yuki's taste but now, all the shelves were filled with books.

The balcony door that was closed suddenly rattled. The girl who was lying on her bed reading, let go of the book in shock and it fell right on her face. She groaned and glared at the rattling doors, expecting someone standing there. But there was no one. The doors continued to shake, now more violently than ever.

Yuki stood up and cautiously walked towards the door. She readied herself to use her ability. But as soon as she opened the door, it was completely calm. Silence overtook the place. Then came an eerie whisper- 'danger', it said.

Yuki shivered and looked around, her heart beating hard against her chest. She was scared to say the least. Then came another uncanny whisper - 'look straight ahead of you'.

Yuki took in a sharp breath and stared ahead, anticipating an attack of some kind. But no- it was something worse. It was a nightmare. Chuuya, she thought. This was the time when... when he lost his family. Yuki covered her mouth, breathing heavily.
