Thalia
Thalia Morgan.....Date of Birth August 19th 1997...."Yada yada yada." I hate talking about myself or writing about it.
I have to update my bar tending licences every year after my birthday. Persephone normally sits in with me when I do it because she's my boss, but she's not here tonight. That is weird, she at least makes herself known after hours. Especially to me. Not that I go...looking for her or anything.
Okay, maybe I went up to her office to find her and didn't, so I'm just sitting at her desk to fill out my paperwork. I'm off the clock, she wouldn't mind right?
A loud crash from downstairs made me jump, dragging me from my thoughts of my boss. Boss, best friend, I could make a list.
I quickly got up and peaked out the blinds; Persephone's office over looked the bar floor, she had the blinds closed. I see a large figure moving toward the bar. "Shit."
I grab my phone as I run out of the room and head downstairs, "Hey. Hey!" I call as I come down the stairs, though the figure didn't move. It was leaning on the bar, I could hear it breathing. And as I got close, it was...big.
I'm not small, 5'11 to be exact, and have been told I'm the ideal female masculinity. I don't now what that means but I was a wrestler in high school and played basketball in college. I can handle my own. But whatever the fuck this person was on...well...it made me take pause before I got close.
Whatever it was, was either on or off something by the sound of it. Deep breathing, hoarse, and the smell. Yuck.
"Pers...." It spoke, it was inhuman. Deep and sounded like they had been smoking since birth.
"We're closed dude, you can't be here." I still need to figure out how they got in here. Persephone was going to kill me, nothing like this had ever happened. She prided herself on good security and a safe place.
But not after hours, to the public.
The person suddenly turned to me and it was even more scary than looking at the back. I'm still questioning what exactly it is. But it was big and bulky, really hair, a big shiny nose ring. The trench coat made them look bigger, but they were still bulky. But I could tell it was a man.
He was fine, no blood or outside damage. Just out of breath.
"You're...not Persephone." He said, looking fearful.
"No, she's not here tonight. But I guess I can tell her you stopped by." I said, nodding lightly. I took the moment to glance over to the door; well, what use to be the door. It looked like he just came through the door.
Oh Persephone really was going to kill me. How was I suppose to explain the door to her? How was I suppose to explain this guy?
"No, I need her now." He mumbled, taking a large hand up to his head, running it through his mane of hair. "She told me specifically if anything happened in the ruins, to come to her. And she doesn't take that lightly." Boy did I know it, she was so serious. It was so hot. "Please tell me you know where she is." He said, pushing off the bar and taking a hard step to me.
I jumped back at the sudden movement, watching him cautiously. "Oh sorry, bit heavy footed." He said, holding his hands up. That was not a joke, he probably had to get custom made shoes.
I relaxed, he hadn't made any move to come at me. "It's alright. But I really don't know where Persephone is. Maybe her place, but she hadn't answered any of my messages." I explained, moving my hand to my jeans. My phone was in my back pocket, it hadn't buzzed since I closed up.
"Oh please please please take me to her. I have to tell her." He said, taking a deep breath.
"Wait, what do you have to tell her? Something about ruins?" I asked, frowning softly. Who was this guy? Why did he need to get to her so badly? She never told me about someone visiting, or if anyone came looking for her. She didn't really talk about herself.
"Oh yes. My name is Odello, nice to meet you. I guard the ruins of the Underworld for Queen Persephone. She lives up here now with the others, so I have to come up here to find her if anything happens. And something has happened!" He said, flexing his big hands as he started to panic again, shaking his head. "There was an intruder! He tried to take the crown but I was able to scare him off. He even slipped past Charon! I didn't know anyone could do that." He said, shaking his head.
Did she have another club I didn't know about? I mean, calling her queen was a little weird but she could definitely do it. But the Underworld? Intruders, Charon? What the fuck?
"What?" Was all I could manage, my nose turned up so much it could touch my eyebrows. I really didn't know what to think. I figured if she opened another club, or even had one, I would know about it.
This made him stop and turn, going wide eyed. "Wait...are you...mortal?" He looked like he was going to faint, all the color drained from his face. Whatever skin that wasn't hidden under all the hair.
"Uh yeah..." I replied, taking a soft breath. Why did he ask it like that? Mortal? Who even used that lingo anymore? Except vampire writers or TV shows.
"Oh no. I shouldn't have told you that. I should not have told you that." He said, slapping his hands over his mouth. "I thought you were another god! Or at least a nymph! I didn't know she associated with mortals." He said, shaking his head quickly.
He made a run for it, going to the door. But before he made it to the door, he stopped, so sharply he almost fell back.
"No. You shouldn't have." I knew that voice, and from the way he spoke about her, it was obvious why he stopped so sharply. She was not happy.
"Pers..." I mumbled, watching as Odello moved out of the way.
She looked different. She had a very feminine physique, but she kept her hair cropped short. She had her tattoos covered, but the one on her chest peaked out from behind her...toga? She was mostly covered in the flowy black fabric, gold accents and jewelry. The gold popped against her dark skin. She was wearing a gold vine crown, little flowers accenting around the band.
"Are you alright?" She asked, all but floating over to me. She seemed so graceful. Normally she had a punk rock, closed off nature about her. Now...now she seemed like an actual goddess.
Yes I know where her name came from, I read Percy Jackson in middle school. But I never...obviously could never image it actually being real.
I stepped away from her awaiting hands, hurt flashed in her eyes as I looked away. "Persephone, what is going on? Who is this guy? Why are you in a really good Halloween costume?" I had so many more questions, but those seemed the most relevant.
"Thalia..." She said gently, frowning softly at me. "There is a lot I need to explain, I never wanted you to find out about this." She explained, nodding softly. She still had her arms open, but didn't walk close. She was waiting for me to come to her, I so wanted to.
"Are you going to tell me about...whatever this is?" I asked, waving my hand at them. She nodded and motioned me over again.
I trust her, she's been a good friend to me, even with this whole double life. She hasn't let me down. That counted for...for a lot. Especially when I haven't had a lot of good friends, especially not nowadays.
"I will, I just have to get you out of here." She finally said, when I didn't answer or walk over.
I watched her for a moment, sighing softly. I guess I took too long to respond, so she leaned over and grabbed my arm, pulling me along with Odello behind us.
"Whoa, where are we going?" I asked, stumbling through the broken door before I was pushed in Persephone's SUV. Odello nuzzled in the back, hunched over on the folded seats.
Persephone proceeded to buckle me in to the passenger seat, slam the door and get in on the driver side. She wheeled out of the parking lot like she was a formula 1 driver.
"We're going to Olympus."
